If places like Raqqa and other cities are all about the caliphate

And home to nut jobs like Al-Baghdadi, why can't we just go and turn the city into glass. I doubt there is anyone in the city, man woman or child that isn't part of ISIS or ISIL or whatever it's called at the moment. So there would be no collateral damage IMHO.

Because we're better than them, or we're supposed to be. And the vast majority of those people are like people everywhere else, just trying to survive.

I was under the impression that most that didn't want to be a part of the caliphate left. That's why there is so many refugees.

Yes and no. It's not exactly easy just to leave your home and everything you know. Some people stayed in hopes it wouldn't be "that bad" only to find they can't leave now. Others just play along because they don't want to give up their home. There are actual anti-ISIS movements in some of these towns (think French resistance in Vichy France).

I say Hiroshima Raqqa and a couple other strong holds. That would completely destroy ISIL and splinter them to the point where they wouldn't hold cities and be the equivalent of Al Quada hiding in the mountain caves. Making sure to have taken out all the military vehicles and artillery they have seized. And the leaders like Al-baghdadi and his top commanders. frick the UN.
Or we could wait until they surround Arbil.

I'd rather clean New Otleans.

We could seriously disrupt their military ops by bombing their strongholds, but you can't bomb and ideology.
The only people that can truly make that region peaceful are its inhabitants. They have to want to live in peace and keep all the extremists in check themselves.
