Credit is A+. Currently have bass pro card (12K limit/no balance) and chase slate (12K no balance). I dont fly but maybe once or twice a year so I am looking for a card that I get points for everything I buy. About to put everything on it and just pay it off each month. Looking for advice.

What are your highest spend categories? Groceries, Gas, Restaurants, etc...?

Amex blue cash preferred

I'm interested as well. I'd say my biggest spending categories are restaurants and groceries (do Wal-Mart and Target qualify for the groceries category for any cards?).

I'd go with the Chase Freedom and Chase Sapphire Preferred combo. Rotating 5% cash back categories for Chase Freedom and double points on restaurants
no

I spend on everything and plan on it from now on. Thats why I was looking for cash back on every purchase.

I met someone who buys gift cards at the grocery store with the Blue Cash Preferred and claims he gets 6% back. Anyone able to verify this?

You can do that but they limit you to 6,000 dollars a year at the grocery store because people were abusing this policy

Earn 6% Cash Back at U.S. supermarkets up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1%); 3% Cash Back at U.S. gas stations, 3% Cash Back at select U.S. department stores; and 1% Cash Back on other purchases.

which card was that? Also, since I have a chase slate, could I transfer that to another chase card and not lose the credit history?

That was the Amex blue cash preferred
I have a card that gives 5x points at restaurants but it's only available to students now

No don't transfer it. You won't get the sign-up bonus.
If you opened the CSP and Freedom that's 60k points right off the bat

Looking at the sapphire. I see it has a membership fee of 95 bucks after first year. Still worth it to get it?
Does applying for both affect the outcome? Which should I apply first?

I would get the fee card (CSP) and then downgrade it to the no-fee card next year before your fee hits.
Then after you get the bonus for the CSP apply for the Freedom

Sounds good. I didnt realize you could downgrade it. What would it turn into?

Chase Sapphire.
Still 2x points on dining, only 1x on travel. Lose the ability to transfer to travel partners.

Good deal, thanks for all the help. One final question. I have in my mail already preapproved for the CSP. I am buying a card in the next 2-3 months. Should I wait until afterwards or does it matter? Again, there will be no balance on any of my cards when I purchase regardless if I get this one or not.

I just made a new post about my credit card, but I have a Merrill Lynch Platinum Plus Cash back VISA, and it provides me with 1.25% back in the form of points, which are in essence, cash, if I prefer. There is no limit on the points or cash back you can earn. It has a fixed rate under 9%. I've had it for >ten years and not sure you can even apply for it any longer. Over the last eight years I've received back close to $12,000.

No you are fine. I applied and got 3 new cards the year I bought and financed my new car. I think it dropped around 10 points from the 3 apps
