Mayor's plan calls for civilian police patrols in the French Quarter

quote:

Dubbed "NOLA PATROL," the unarmed, uniformed civilian officers would theoretically free up an understaffed New Orleans Police Department to focus on more serious crimes.

sound like an excellent idea...maybe you don't understand what their responsibilities will be and how that will free up cops to handle more serious situations

more uniformed officers on the street will be a deterrent, no doubt, regardless of whether they're carrying firearms

I seem to recall reading about the Guardian Angels coming to New Orleans way back when while I was in the Air Force. How did that turn out?

I have identified the issue!

Go to the link opening photo and you will note that there are EIGHT officers and Troopers standing in one spot bullshitting with each other. Here's a radical concept. Spread the frick out and cover more ground.

It's actually an interesting idea. You dress up civilians like cops making it appear there is a stronger police presence. People won't know the difference.

When do cops actually prevent crimes? It's just their presence that is important.

New Orleans citizen officers could perform traffic control duties as well as write parking tickets and respond to accidents that do not result in injuries.
I have no problem with taking Nopd away from traffic control and parking ticket duty.

Too logical. It's way more fun to shite on any idea to try to better the city.

I know some veterans that have willingly volunteered their services to BRPD and NOPD if they're that understaffed.
