Why doesn't the "Sun" have a better name?

I mean..sun is a generic term..and also our Sun gets a capital letter.
Seems like a raw deal for something so important to the solar system. I'd be pissed if this was the most effort put into providing me with a proper name.
If nothing else give the fricker a galactic serial number or something.
