Anyone have one before? My son is turning 4 in November and has asked repeatedly. It seems easy enough to maintain. Seems safe enough as well if I get the right one.

I'm afraid he's too young though, and might do something like smash it, or play with it too often.

Hamster might be better, but we have a big dog so a tiny rodent might be bad alltogether.

Any advice from spider owners?

frick hamsters, rats are ten times better pets.

Never had a spider but our beardy didn't make it long.

How about a bunny or baby brown snake. I have those coming out the arse at my house.

Good thing about rabbits is when he gets tired of it you can eat it.

Everything would be all hunky dory until the MF'r got out and was missing and then my house would, for the strangest reason, burn down

I have a couple. They are very interesting and cool to watch. Very easy to maintain. Cool thing about tarantulas and other exotic pets is you can use it as a learning tool for your son.

How is handling? I imagine him wanting to play with it a lot. Obviously that's not good for them.

I got one when i was 17 to help me get over my fear of spiders. Crazy 'little' bastard is still alive.
Actually molted a few weeks ago.
