Is not naming a starter hurting both QB's?

If you go ahead and choose a guy he gets more reps with the 1's and better preparation going into the opener.

Seems like prolonging this hampers both guys and ends up hurting the guy who gets the nod.

What if neither has beaten the other out? When one of them proves they are better than the other, that QB will get the majority of the reps. I don't expect this to happen until after the first few games.

Maybe not naming a starter allows them to work as hard as they can while competing for the starting job, so that they both will be ready to step in and fill that role if needed.

I understand competition is a good thing but at this point when you're preparing for Wisconsin maximizing your starters reps would pay more dividends than splitting it up.

Plenty of time for that.

And, I hate to be "that guy"...but, Do you really think that you have a better handle on proper QB preparation than Cam Cameron?

They both need reps if they're both going to play.

I think Miles has handled this very well.

Just accept now that this season will be a year with two quarterbacks playing 50% of the time.

And next year.

And the next.

I hate it. Think it robs the team of a true leader and doesn't allow any of them to get into a rhythm, but it's the way its gonna be.

This. I think we use games 2 and 3 to really work the QB's and pick a true starter.

Gotta get through game 1 first, though.

The problem with this is it starts from the premise that Les Miles is telling you the truth.

Here is what we know for sure: Les Miles has not publicly named the starter. Both guys have gotten reps with the first team. That's it. We don't know the split, we don't know anything else.

My suspicion is, as this goes along, the guys know who the starter is going to be based on proportion of reps. Don't let paranoid Les' public misinformation campaign warp your perception.

Also, given your name, number of posts, and avi, tigrlee alter?

Miles has his reasons. Sit back and enjoy the ride, he'll pick the right QB, calm down.

He could very well have his starter but he may be holding everything close to the vest right now.

Anyone who hasn't yet figured out who will be starting against Wisconsin is a dummy.

You've missed his point. Even if neither player has "won" the job, LSU may be in a better position to give the large majority of the reps to a single guy.

I'll name you a guy this worked out for last year.

Connor Cook

first 3 games splitting time 27/49 55% 279 yards (5.6 ypa) 4 TDs

Final 11 games 196/331 59.2% 2479 yards (7.5 ypa) 18 TDs 6 ints

Him and the other guy were battling it out the first three games. By Notre Dame, they had a starter.

I'm hoping for the same kind of curve. Our YPA should be higher, but we will throw the ball 90-100 times less than they did though.

Maybe u missed the point moneyg? Is your answer to the Op's question yes or no? But if neither does enough to win the job in the eyes of the players and coaches, What would u do, coach money?
Which one do u choose and what is your criteria for choosing that particular QB that hasnt outright won the job?
Miles knows his team and the commitments that he has made to players. He has set a deadline and will inform the public at that time.
