It's for a post on the Mississippi State board in which a poster, engie, said:

quote:

Let's not act like there is a statistically relevant difference to playing them in the day vs at night.

we should be a lot better in night games since we play all the scrub teams on our schedule at night since TV doesn't dictate when we play.

Yeah there are many different ways to interpret numbers. A record doesnt really mean anything unless it is broken down more

Since 1960, LSU is 231-61-4 (.787) at night in Tiger Stadium compared to a 29-26-3 (.526) record during the day over that span. Since 2000, LSU is 65-6 in night games and head coach Les Miles is 40-2 in Saturday night games in Death Valley.

For Mississippi State...this is actually a true statement.

And those two losses were both to #1 teams, Florida and Alabama I believe..

The link you cited must have a mistake in its numbers. It says:

quote:

LSU’s all-time record in Tiger Stadium: 242-85-7.

LSU’s record in night games since 1960: 219-60-4.

It seems impossible that we could have played 283 night games since 1960, but only 334 games all-time. That would mean that every day game since 1960 plus every game before 1960 was only 51 games. That's got to be wrong.

I do know since 2009, the only games we've lost at home (day & night) are to #1 Florida in 2009 and #1 Alabama in 2012. Pretty damn remarkable

No, we almost never played day games before ESPN and other cable networks starting televising every game.

If you estimate that we play 2 home day games per year, and start from 1990, that means about 50 home day games.

Plus every home game before 1960 = WAY more than 50 games.

334 total games all-time
-283 night games since 1960
=All day games after 1960
+All games before 1960
=Way more than 51

There is something wrong in some of the numbers.

There was a quote a few years ago by a South Carolina player, who said that it was so loud he couldn't see the calls from the sideline because it was so loud that his "eyeballs were vibrating". That's got to be my favorite quote ever, but I can't find a link to it.

anyone have it?

Coach Miles is 40-2 in night games at Tiger Stadium.

40-2

Both losses came against the #1 ranked team.
