I have stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. I was diagnosed in January 2011 at age 60, had surgery and seven weeks of radiation. I have the aggressive kind. Two years of hormone therapy kept it in remission but my PSA started rising last summer. i have been to MD Anderson twice, had numerous scans, tests, skeletal surveys, etc. At this time my disease is kinda stable. So I qualified for a clinical trial with two oral medications combined. I started yesterday( they "randomized" me and put me in a study group) and had no allergic reaction. I have to take up to 5 pills each morning on an empty stomach and have no coffee or food for an hour after. The good news is that I generally feel good an can continue to work.
I have never said much on here about this because I always see someone worse off than I am. Of course, the EJW story is an example. We have current posters fighting stuff worse than this. I was diagnosed about the time that our fellow poster keldar was dying of cancer. He was very brave,an inspiration, and a great American
I have been able to live for about 4 years with this disease and I am thankful for that. Please pray for my family.

This just sucks. Very sorry to hear this. My prays are sent. I had to go to New Orleans yesterday to go see one of my brothers. 4 years ago, he had to have his left lung removed and now about 5 months ago, it's back and has spread all over him. He is not doing all that good now.

Prayers for you man.
As soon as I saw your thread title, I immediately thought of EJW. I usually do every morning when I wake up thinking I would roll over and have a text from him like I did every morning for since texts were invented up until the morning he passed away. I'm fighting back tears right now, but the good thing about this is that his struggle raised awareness for folks like you as well as many others out there that saw his battle here on TD.com.

I wish I could have known EJW. He was a young man. At least I am old and have lived to know my grandkids. The EJW thing was heart breaking and sad but I can tell you it was an inspiration to me and likely to others out here. And it did raise awareness. I hope this thread will raise awareness of prostate cancer. Men get your PSA checked annually and YOU keep a chart or list. If you see any sudden upward movement in the reading, that is a red flag. KNOW your number.
I hate to hear of young people getting cancer. There is a post about someone's 27 year old GF on the OB with cancer and they are trying to raise money.
