Just finished the series on Netflix great show.
Now am I the only one that thought the season 4 finale where Gus dies should have been the series finale? There was no loose story lines to tie up. Gus- Dead
Cartel- dead
Hank/Dea- thought the case was solved
Ted Benneke- wasn't talking
Skylar- back in love with walt
They added so much in season 5 it seemed like to much to me.The overseas angle, white gang, Lydia and the 9 people in prison. None of them were in any part of the show till season 5. Just in my opinion the show built everything up for four season then wrapped it up great, then decided to go for one more story line. Sorry for the rant

No.

And yes, there were still loose story lines to tie up with Walt's personal life. Now I'll grant you the additional story lines added over the show were closed....but the one that started it all was unresolved.

The series could have only ended two ways: Walt's death, or his exit from the meth business.

Its what made it so painful for Hank to happen to see that book and make the connection. He was actually done and was forcefully putting everything behind him.

The show came full circle perfectly IMO. Wouldn't change anything other than having Skyler and Marie dying at the hands of Huell.

No. Walt clearly stated that he was "in the empire business." Getting rid of Gus was just the beginning in his mind. The story from there - and how quickly things unraveled - just served to demonstrate that Walt was not as well equipped to run an empire as he imagined himself to be.

Plus he was broke, thanks to skylar and Ted. Gray matter really ate at his soul everyday.

Well Mike knew that Gus dieing was a very bad thing. The way walt just really became a really bad person mostly toward Jesse but also to Skylar and Saul was really a flip from the start of the show.

you're correct. they needed to have the ozymandias/losing the family shite happen, but i feel like Gus should have been the "boss of the game" so to speak. those nazis were such shitty cookie cutter bad guys. it would take some rearranging, but they couldve had everything happen with Gus instead, and it's how I wouldve gone about it. I remember watching S4 with my buddies and as soon as it concluded, I told them "no way they can top this." they crammed way too much shite in season 5

Walt was broke though and in case you missed the whole underlying point of the series with Walt's transformation there was no way he was stopping without reaching the top.

He gave up his shares in Gray Matter for $5K and regretted it when Elliot and Gretchen got wealthy from his work so there was no way he was going to make that same mistake twice.

The last episodes of season 4 were meant to b
to stand alone in the event the show ended at gus death end. at the time season 5 negotiations between sony and amc were up in the air

Amc wanted to cut costs and only have 6 more episodes for a final season, whereas Vince gilligan and Sony wanted the usual 13/14.

Dude, Todd was awesomely sadistic as frick. The rest were pretty meh but they were just backdrops really to Todd and Lydia.

The pace of season 5 was awesome and didn't feel crammed at all.

Gus told him never to do that, over dinner.

Gus was the shite though. 20+ years he has a smooth operation, teams up with Walter and gets blown up in a couple months. Walter was literally a cancer. But you can't help but love him.

I agree, he was the only other villain in the series you find yourself pulling for besides Walter. Brilliantly portrayed. I'm still sticking to my theory he was a wealthy, military man in Chile before fleeing after Pinochet's assassination attempt in 1986.

And of course changing his name. In the "better call Saul" series, it would be cool to see him and mike working together again at some point in the past.

How could they be though?

These storylines and people can't come about until Walter climbs up the ranks in the drug world.

I wish they did a Gus prequel series instead of "Better Call Saul."

Pretty much thought that the whole series. It was always in the back of his mind. I knew that was somehow going included at the end of the series.
