I was trying to plan a weekend trip for me and the wife. The express deals pop up, but you do not get to see what hotels they are but they give you the price and the ratings.

So I saw a few for under a 100 bucks that were 4 star rating. I want to bite, but I am afraid of getting a bad hotel area. Anyone have any experience with the express deals? How did it turn out for you?

Where you going?

I used the name your own price tool and got a room at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans like two days before I had to be there for $150/night. This was on the weekend of Tulane graduation, so there was a lot going on right there around the Superdome.

Go to better bidding.com and they have forums dedicated to cities and what hotels have been given out for said stars selection. Its a very good way to get hotel rooms. About as cheap as you can get. Only thing cheaper is name your own price and it will only be $4-5 cheaper

I've stay in New Orleans Marriott for about $80 many times when posted rate was 130-150 or so

I've bid the room for under 70 many times as well

This, based on details of the hotel star level etc. you can figure out what property it is.

They are good, if you bid in my experience the best you'll get is like another ten bucks off a night so it's easier. There is a Priceline/Hotwire forum with boards by state and under each they post the hotels by city, location and star rating so you can get an idea. It's not perfect as the companies get new deals all the time with hotels but it's usually accurate. People also post what they got in terms of an express deal. That's all I do now.

I have started to use the express deals instead of the name your price just because it is easier if you don't get the correct bid the first time. I have been using both for over 5 years and it has always worked out.

I love Priceline Name Your Own Price. Just remember though whether you use Express or NYOP that you cannot cancel the reservation, so make sure your dates are written in stone.

I don't think I've heard of anyone getting 4 star in a bad area of N.O. Not sure they even exist.
