Working out after a 24 hour stomach bug
Posted on 8/15/14 at 8:27 am

Was up all night Wednesday/Thursday morning vomiting and diarrea.
Woke up today and feel much better but still a little weak. All I ate yesterday was a plain turkey sandwich and chicken noodle soup
I normally work out 6-7 days a week so I'm dying to get back to the gym today. What do you think? Will it make things worse?

You are probably dehydrated.

I would take the day off and eat to refuel your body. If you try to work out today, your workout will probably suffer anyway.

Ate some dry toast and an egg today. Felt good and gave me energy
We will see. Just afraid to gain weight if I take time off from gym

Won't kill you. Anyway, because you were sick and throwing up, you didn't take in too many calories.

How much weight can you gain in taking 2 days off? Are you cutting right now?

I think you work out way too much and a solid week off could do you some good, followed by a new routine where you rest for at least two days during the week.

How many maintenance calories does your body need per day? Do you know this? Sit down and figure this out and you can take an entire month off from the gym and not gain/lose weight. You may lose muscle mass, but you wont gain weight. You really shouldnt look at weight as a barometer for how healthy you are either (in your context). Find out how many calories you need and disperse them amongst the proper macro's of carb/fat/pro and you will not gain weight unless you want to. Im sure you do 30 mins of cardio a day huh?

Much more cardio to be honest
Lift 3 days, do insanity 1 day and run 6-7 days. When I run I typically do 5-7 miles with a long run Sunday after my cheat meal the night before. Usually a 10-12 mile run

Do you do all this because you think you have to to stay fit or because you really enjoy running that much?

Both
It's hard to explain but I lost about 60lbs 5 years ago and have kept it off
I was pudgy my whole life so it's hard to mentally grasp the fact of taking time off and not do anything
