Why are rates so high?
Why do trial lawyers get more attention from the legislature and the Governor than does the tax paying citizens??
Who will protect us??
Governor please stay home and deal with this.

High auto insurance rate states also tend to be ones with plaintiff-friendly court systems that yield higher settlements.
In Louisiana, judges are elected, personal injury lawyers advertise heavily on television and the sides of buses and the state has a direct-action law, allowing people to sue insurers directly.
"I think here, more than anywhere, it's a litigious society, even on these little fender benders," said Chris Paulin, who is vice president of Insurance Underwriters Ltd. in Metairie and president of the local chapter of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Louisiana.
The state's relatively poor population could also make people more inclined to sue or wring everything they can out of an insurance policy. About 12 percent of Louisiana motorists have no car insurance, and another 40 percent of Louisiana drivers have only the required minimum levels of coverage. That means that, taken together, half of the state's drivers are essentially saying through their insurance choices that they have no assets to protect. Meanwhile, about 19 percent of Louisianans have no health coverage, making them more likely to pursue an injury claim if they are in a wreck.
Indeed, according to the Insurance Research Council, Louisiana is different from other states in that people tend to make claims for bodily injuries even if those injuries are not that bad. "While the severity of the claims in Louisiana is not unusual -- in fact it's a little lower than the countrywide average -- Louisiana has the highest frequency of bodily injury claims," said David Corum, vice president of the Insurance Research Council.

If we had spent the 1.5 billion on road we gave the film industry we would much better roads and perhaps lower insurance rates. No question about that.

Tell me where the billions of pissed away shovel ready stimulus dollars that were earmarked for American infrastructure landed and we can have a mature discussion.

Can't be right. I thought we were number 1?

Louisiana was tied for 6th in fatalities per mile driven in 2012.
LINK
That might have something to do with it.
Elected judges are stupid, BTW.

this
Want to know where they get all the money they spend to get elected??? The local lawyers.
I know one that spent $300,000 to get elected and had a fund raiser AFTERWARDS and got it all back. Every member of the bar in the district got an "invitation" to contribute.

It is not unique to Louisiana.
Those medical claims are.
I would love to see Caldwell just once prosecute one of those accident doctors for fraud.
My neighbor was once in an accident and went to a local lawyer with a sizable practice to try to pursue the deductible he was out on his uninsured motorist. The lawyer ask him if he was hurt. He replied no. Lawyer then says he can't help him, hands him a card for a doctor and tells him if decides he is hurt go see this doctor and then come back to his office.

oh I know I just love to complain about Louisiana drivers.
I seem to have bad karma with bad drivers.
driving on 44 near the interstate, person drives over middle line on 4 lane road.
trying to turn on lobdell from jefferson, right turn signal is on, person stays i honk the horn person stays
driving on small country highway, someone stops in the middle of the road to let someone out.
it follows me.
I know there are multiple reasons our insurance rates are so high.
One note: there are many countries who drive a lot better than we do. Amazingly many central american countries have really good drivers, despite the lack of laws governing driving. I have heard from friends Europeans are good drivers too. Americans suck at driving.

It's not the governor. It's the people.

I moved from Metro ATL to BTR in 2013. My car insurance rates (State Farm) on both of my cars went down about 10% each.

I have heard No-Fault insurance helps. Is that true?

Why are our rates so high?
1. Retarded drivers
2. Drunk drivers
3. Drivers posting on OT while driving
4. Extremely poor roads in a lot of places
5. Uninsured drivers
6. Higher settlements
7. Poorly designed roads and bridges (i.e. New Bridge narrowing to 1 freaking lane)
8. Retarded drivers (it deserves to be listed twice)

No laws against talking on cell phone while driving.
THe phrase "retarded" is a slur against the mentally handicapped, BTW. If you intend to offend the mentally handicapped and their family members that love and take care of them, you should use the word. If you wish not to offend them, you should refrain. For now I'm just gonna assume its the former and you hate the mentally handicapped, unless you say different.

You don't need a law for common fricking sense.

Its not about lawsuits. They have lawyers in illinois, too and insurance is WAY cheaper there.
Its mostly due to bad drivers and bad infrastructure. The fact that posts in this very thread refer to the interstate is proof enough. They think this is the main street people should use to get around town. That's because our surface streets are lacking.
