The Obama - Romney Debates, two years later

Iraq:
In the 2012 debates, Romney warned that Obama’s failure to secure an agreement to keep a residual military force in Iraq would threaten the U.S. gains made. “America’s ability to influence events for the better in Iraq has been undermined by the abrupt withdrawal of our entire troop presence,” Romney stated. In the vacuum left by the departure of the US military, ISIS arose and made great gains. The atrocities they have committed have brought us back to Iraq (in a limited fashion).
Russia:
In the 2012 debates, Obama mocked Romney for calling Russia America’s top geopolitical foe. Today, Russia has taken Crimea from Ukraine, funds and provides weapons and men to Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine and will probably invade the country. President Vladimir Putin meddles in the Mideast, seeks to expand Moscow’s clout in Latin America, and harbors renegade Edward Snowden.
Veterans' healthcare:
In 2011 Romney brought up the idea of giving veterans a voucher to obtain medical care they could not get at a Veterans Administration hospital. This year saw the VA scandal reveal that long waiting lists for hospital treatment were hidden. Legislation Obama signed this week allows vets to seek help outside the VA system.
Economics:
Romney stated that the nation’s outdated, complex tax code encouraged U.S. corporations to park assets overseas and invest in other countries. He recommended tax reform to keep that money and business in America and boost the economy. Various members of the Left have submitted bills to penalize the behavior (some would even seek to do so retroactively) instead of incentivizing a change in the behavior.
With all this said, I'm not wanting Romney to run again. His predecessor to the ACA is more than enough reason for that. What this is for is to show just how wrong a choice we made. Instead of choosing the candidate with the better grasp on issues, we opted for glib charisma with no workable ideas. It wasn't a Presidential election nearly so much as it was a popularity contest, and the guy that won has been a loss for the country.

Romney needs to be either SecTreas or head of either OMB or the CEA.

Iraq:

Russia:

Veterans' healthcare:
quote:Romney hasn't given any details on the loopholes he was going to eliminate or anything else for that matter. Yes, I believe he would have given huge tax breaks to business at the expense of social security, medicare, and medicaid. I have no reason to believe this would have prevented ANY businesses from leaving the US. It may have sped it up.

We had an election with one candidate basing his agenda on facts, the other one based his agenda on dreams.
The dreamer won, twice. Go figure.

I don't see how you can say that. On the one hand you have someone who clearly understands and outlines the problems. On the other you have someone who dismisses there is even a problem to address.

Romney would be a great cabinet member like Treasury Secretary, but I don't want him as Pres

And the dreamer is planning on legalizing the "Dreamers" on top of that.

Regarding Russia it would make no difference who was President with the nut job Putin. He does what he wants to expand the Russian empire even at the expense of his people suffering and their quality of life getting worse. His ideology goes hand in hand with being KGB. He respects no one and will do what he wants.

Do you think it's important for the President to understand this fact?

wish I knew what to say besides
its a damn shame

100% important and shows Obama and his team failed to really grasp who they were dealing with.
But it still would make no difference. Putin is a ruthless thug with little man syndrome, and people thinking Romney would prevent all of this are lying to themselves.

Unfortunately Romney was dismissed as a rich white guy who was out of touch; but two years later who do we know now was out of touch?

This is an easy solution, but without legislation
Romney hasn't given any details
The point is that he at least saw these problems coming whereas the incumbent not only did not, but at times ridiculed Romney for thinking some of these were really issues.
We can play the "what he would/wouldn't have done" all day long, but in the end it's a useless jerk-off contest because it's all conjecture. What isn't conjecture is that one candidate saw these issues coming and one didn't. And we chose the one who didn't.

He got his arse handed to him, let it go.

Rand Paul is in complete agreement with Obama. In fact, he wants to repeal authorization of troops in Iraq.

I'm not saying the world would be roses but in no way would Iraq and Ukraine would be in the exact same boat today with Romney as president.

@vegas bengal-you did notice that the link to polifact described the expansion of HOUSING vouchers to veterans, while the Romney plan was about medical care vouchers?
Not saying the housing vouchers were a bad move; but it's not really responsive to the claim that Obama has mishandled the VA system.

Ukraine 100% would be the same, this shite wasn't planned overnight. This has been in the works for years before Obama.

Where's the gif of Biden laughing about Russia?
