When listening to the coaches, I think our defense will be really really good. Chavis said that he has one of the best DE combos in the country. They last time he said that was when LSU had Logan and Brockers at DT. Also, this LB corps is the best Chavis has had since he's been at LSU. Add to that the two lockdown CBs and emerging safeties, this defense has a chance to be really good. In addition, we have the potential to have a really dominate running game that will help the defense stay rested. IMO, the schedule sets up nicely for LSU to make a run for the SECC.

What about our DF line with 2 serious injury's out for the season. We need to hope the young guy's step up.

Thank you for not overlooking this game. People are all too quick to say national championship these days.

Typically, it all starts with winning the conference.

dream on. DT was a HUGE concern, and that was before we lost our best DT to injury.

I hope our young DTs step up, but it's a huge question mark for this defense.

To say our D will be dominant is just being a blind homer.

Jalen Mills with only two games at safety was much better than Martin, Loston, and Thompson. He was better in run support and has CB coverage skills. At the other safety, Adams and Battle have receive a ton of praise. Adams especially. He has been talked about by every LSU talking head. Some say he is a young Eric Reid. Mike Detiller says he looks like Kenny Vaccaro. Plus there is Jefferson who finished the spring as the starting safety opposite Mills. I like I chance to get better there. Another factor that I haven't heard anyone mention is the addition of Peveto. He will help Coach Raymond with the safeties.

There is a chance that Thomas will play in the Wisky game. Besides, Thomas isn't our best DT. LaCouture is one name that stands out. Also, Frank Herron has been on of the most talked about players this camp. Gilmore and Bain are young but have a ton of talent as well. I like our depth at DT this season. Ego and Anthony had to play to many snaps last year because the youngsters needed time to develop. In addition, Thomas was hurt much of the season do we only played 3 DT at times.

Quentin Thomas will play. If all you're concerned about is DY depth, defense will be fine

I think we will need valentine though. Guy looks ready to play d1

How much longer does this game have? I think only 4-5 years at most as playoffs expand and the SEC wants more teams in it. Giving one of your two best a late season loss could bump them out

Valentine and Godchaux! That's 6 DTs. Chavis says that all six will play. I think we got better at DT in 2014. Ego played great last year but Johnson was out of position a whole lot. I love Johnson but he never did improve his technique and tried to hard to make big plays. I think we are better with these youngsters.

Good question, Mr. Perfect. I remember that people were worried that the SECC would keep the SEC from making it to the BCS title game. Lol. They were wrong. IMO, this four team playoff won't last long. They are gonna have to go to 8 teams. Somebody from the big 5 conference will be left out. If it's the SECC then there will definitely be a big mess.

Was wondering the same thing. There is almost no scenario where the SECCG increases the odds that an SEC team will win the National Championship.

The only reason they'll go to 8 games is $$$, but they'll do it under the guise of fairness.

Our defense has two great players at CB. Safety is a big question mark. A couple of good players and a potential star but true freshman. Kwon is an above average LB. The rest have not produced enough to say definitively. Rasco is okay and Hunter has a high potential but it hasn't resulted in production. DT is pretty average. The depth at each line position is relying on a lot of talented youth.

Now, IF we get solid safety play and IF Welter has gotten stronger and better and IF Hunter reaches his potential and IF Rasco is finally healthy enough to show why he was such a coveted recruit and IF the OLBs are more effective in their third year in the system and IF some of the young pups at DT play above what can reasonably be expected from freshmen, then yes, this defense can be very good.

But that's a lot of ifs. I think we are going to be very susceptible to the power running game. We will know a lot more after we play one of the best power running teams in college football on August 30th.

I think our success comes down to the ability of our DTs to draw attention from the opposing guards. If they are disruptive enough to force the C/G doubles then our LBs are free to low to the ball and our DEs have more freedom to rush the QB.

This type of defense always works best when you have two lockdown corners and a versatile safety. It calls for sending timely blitzes and forcing throws into coverage and without those lockdown guys, it can lead to big plays given up.

this team is starting to feel more and more of a typical les miles team...these season's success will depend more on how everyone else is doing vs how good we actually are.

Are these supposed to be related statements? I'm very confused.
