Can someone please tell me exactly what Israel has done for the United States in the last 100 years?

I don;t follow politics too much but I am sitting here wondering why/how Israel is our closest Ally

By geography/distance ... Canada would be our closest ally.

I don't think Israel is our closest ally. And I haven't seen many people saying that is so.

They are our closest ally in the ME. Though that may be damning them with faint praise.

Based on past deeds and treaties, Turkey is our closest ally in the region and #2, whoever it is, isn't close. Using this same metric, worldwide, our two closest allies are the U.K. and France.

We should be pumping money into Turkey and building them up. They and Israel could do a lot of good in the region.

Israel has helped move arms in the past for us especially to help the Afghannies fight the Russians.

Most of time it's us getting in the way of Israel and not letting them finish the job.

Turkey's future as an ally is tenuous with NATO. Bosnia and Iraq bought them some time. Their continued drift towards an Islamic state will continue their slide from NATO.

If you didn't know that Israel has been a nation for only 66 years then you shouldn't be asking further questions.

The US has traditionally been allies with Israel because it has always been the Judeo-Christian thing to do. According to Judaism and Christianity they (Israel) were God's chosen people--a people whom he has promised to redeem during the "end times."

Hardly anyone in this country realizes the basis for the alliance, and I would imagine next to no one still believes such an archaic stance.

It won't last much longer. Mainstream media pretty much hates Israel. Hell, everyone has ALWAYS hated present day Israel, except for the US.

I think the UK is prolly our closest ally. They followed us into Iraq like complete fricking morons (of course they knew if it wound up going bad they wouldn't get the blame, it would be us, and rightfully so)

Israel is nowhere near being our closest ally, if not for the reason mentioned above concerning religion we would have probably been combatants in the past. From sinking our ships, breaking into our military facilities to steal nuclear material and just basic espionage they proved long ago they were not exactly on our side. These few items listed are what is publicly accepted, there is no telling what else we should probably be pissed about.

The Israelis are the Israelis biggest ally. They are loyal only to themselves.

There are two ways to look at this. Who's the better friend, the guy who confronts you and tries to take your car keys from you after you've had too much to drink (France) or the guy who jumps in the car with you knowing you've had too much to drink but who doesn't want to offend you by challenging your judgment (U.K.)?

Well the IDF didn't help in Iraq or Afghanistan and I doubt they would ever help us in a conflict.

The shite storm that would happen if a Jewish Army marched on Muslim lands.

The Holy War would have officially kicked off.

That may be true, but the fact remains that, aside from W's Iraq War, they've repeatedly sent troops to fight alongside American troops when we needed them and they provide with the Incirlik Air Base.

Little known fact. Before we invaded Iraq, someone realized we forgot to bring enough bullets, so we got millions of rounds of 5.56 from Israel and had it flown from Israel to Kuwait just days before the invasion.

They pretty much hammer down the extremist. Turkey is very western esp by Middle East standard.

I wouldn't mind getting stationed there, have heard some pretty good things.
