Pigeon Forge, TN fishing suggestions

We are staying at Eagles Ridge resort and I would like to go fly fishing one morning. I have never been fly fishing before so I would need to go on a guided trip. I have done some google searches but was just wondering if yall had anyone in particular to suggest. Also any suggestions of other things we should do. We will be there Monday-Thursday.

Go to the national Forrest. We went in March and should have spent the whole time in the park. It is really nice.
There's lots of places to fly fish in the park as well

We went a few summers ago for my cousins wedding. My dad and I did a float trip about 1.5 hrs north. Don't remember the name of the river, I bet some of our TN posters will know it though.
Apparently very popular river. Between the 2 of us we caught like 40 browns and rainbows. Was my first time as well. Guide was dealing with my dad's reel and spotted abig brown in an eddy. He told me what to do.
I casted, presented, ripped line 3-4 times until she came and got it. Then I brought her in and landed her.
Guide said it was textbook and very rare for a firstimer to do all that with a big brown. She was about 14"
We saw some that he said had to go over 20", but apparently only the pro's catch those at night.

If you want to striper fish you can call bo rice up. The trips are short at daybreak but you will catch 10 to 20 big stripers. that would be at loudon dam.

park trout are small and few and far between apparently.

What kind of fishing would I have to best chance of success with this time of year? I would just like to catch some stuff I can't catch in Louisiana haha

If you want to catch species that don't live in La find yourself a rainbow guide. You said you wanted to fly fish but fishing bottom with gulp paste is a sure shot apparently. I did it for the first time this year in the White River (Arky.) and it was a memory I'll cherish forever. Ohhhh, and the fish were dielicious!

Okay well maybe I'll save myself the guide money and just fish for rainbow. How do you rig and what kind of paste did you buy? I'm assuming there are places to bottom fish in the state park?

The Tennessee boys will have to give you insight on where to fish. We found the deepest areas and wet a line. Seems tk work great. We were rigged with a very small weight, swivel, and trout hook. We used several diff colored pastes until we found what they wanted that day.

give little river outfitters a call they will take care of you pay for 1 or 1/2 day they will tell you all you need to know for the rest of the week. The further you hike the more fish you will catch.
LINK if you want to leave the park and hit the clinch get the guide Mike to take you in the park Rob is your best bet. You will find the guides on the plan your trip page on the link.

I lived up there for a year.
Smokey mountain outfitters in gatlinberg should be able to hook you up with a spinning reel or flyfishing trip or get you the equipment you need.
This time of year the trout are smaller probably more smallmouth bass.
You can go to Cherokee country in North Carolina and buy a permit on the reservation to fish. They have a brochure on regulations and cost of trout permit and rainbow c&r permit.

Just go get some corks, tiny gold hooks and garlic salmon eggs. Get the hooks are made for them. Caught all kinds of trout. Rainbow and brown. Oh and we fished little pigeon.

If you have never been fly fishing before, I wouldn't probably try it this trip for the first time. You will have a bad time.
Fly fishing the park can be a highly aggravating experience for beginners. Most of the streams are tiny/closely pack with trees and you are fishing pretty much what are puddles unless you go where the bait casters are at. You have to be pretty ninja in park as well because the fish in the park are scared off very easily too.
I recommend learning how to fly fish before you try it in the park or surrounding area.
Little River Outfitters is pricey, but they have some good guides there and do a decent job of teaching people how to fish, but you should spend at least half a day in the classroom (more if you do it with a large group) if you have never picked up a fly reel before. I think their one day private school is a little over $200 per person, includes all gear and flys, lunch too from what I remember. The scheduled classes are $125.
Some of my favorite easy to get to places to fly fish the park are:
Chimney tops trail head - you can park before the tunnel or after and walk through the tunnel and climb down to the stream. You fish for rainbows all the way up to about the 3rd bridge of the Chinmey's trail when it becomes native Brook. You can fish all day doing this.
Middle Prong of Little River - From townsend take a right and then a left on Tremont. Good fishing up through the Tremont area. Mostly Rainbow
All along river road between townsend and gatlinburg, some browns/bows
Elkmont can be decent sometimes for browns
Cherokee Trophy Section if you want to catch some big ones
If you want to have some real fun fly fishing, you can go up closer to Bristol/Johnson City and do guided float trips down the Holston and Watauga.

Thanks for the response! We are en route now and I have brought just my regular fishing set ups. Like you said, it would be pricey and time consuming to try to learn to fly fish on this trip so I was thinking just stick with what I know and save a little money. What are some good places within the state park to fish like stamant70774 said to fish? Is little pigeon in the park or outside?

I am not real famaliar with bait casting, I don't tend to do it while I am up that way. You can do it in town as they stock it, I don't go there though. Oldyeller would know a lot more there.
The national park is only artificial lures, no bait of any kind is permitted, even natural bait found by the creeks. Don't be that guy, there are already of enough of them. Single hooks only with a maximum of 2 flies per leader. A total of 5 trout or smallmouth over 7 inches per day. Up to 20 rocks above that, no size minimum.
Different rules apply outside the national park, especially where they stock fish.
