Got myself a SA 1911-A1. Made sure to get one with the NM prefix too. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but I can't seem to put it down

KR is now twitching somewhere.

Means very little to the overall function or material quality of the pistol.

although you're very good at it and it does feel good, it's time to turn it loose.

I know, but you don't have to make me feel bad, do you?
you know I have to just close my eyes and rely on what you whisper in my ear.

Just wait until you get to the range.
Welcome to the club.

False

True. Unless you are one of those who believe the myth that NM stands for "National Match". NM (nominally) means that a majority of the pistol was finished in the US (and that majority can be very slim). That isn't always the case because SA Inc has a history of changing how its 1911's are marked. But please, entertain the group on why you think NM marking somehow means a better quality pistol when ALL of their frames, slides, and barrels are forged by IMBEL and I've seen plenty of their custom shop guns with differing prefixes.

Talked to a Springfield rep a few weeks ago.
Springfield will soon be putting NM on all 1911's above mil spec.

My Mil-Spec already is NM marked. You can find NM markings with IMBEL stamped dust covers too if the gun is old enough. SA changes how its pistols are marked every few years and very little has to do with the actual quality of fit and finish over the decades has for what is NM, N, WW, etc. marked.

Yep, that's basically what the Springfield guy said.
I guess the company got tired of all of the NM requests and myths.

It may be a sign they are increasing or assuming more of the finishing work in Geneseo or maybe just trying to simplify their records.

That is an awesome piece. I still haven't decided on stainless when I get one or black and tactical lol

I've shot one before and fell in love I just needed the time to buy other firearms of more importance first. Nightstand then carry and now my first one just for fun. It's been a fun couple of years.

That may be completely true but I just figured all other things being equal why not get the one that is more American made. It may not make a lick of difference in the end, but I only get the chance to make the choice on my first 1911 one time.

I didn't even try and picked up a NM Mil-Spec and like I stated too, the NM marking doesn't necessarily mean it had more work done on it in Geneseo either. You picked a fine first 1911. Hell, you did well if you never buy another too. I've never felt the need to add another to my collection.
