It was a big thing back in the 70's and 80's, but I don't see or hear about it that much any more.

Town I grew up in was the cruise spot for several surrounding towns. Hasn't been a thing for years, even before gas went up.

I've read that today the key event in a young person's life is no longer getting a driver's license, but getting a cell phone

That doesn't make sense to me. No matter what the era, teenagers still want to get the hell away from their parents.

There aren't any decent, malls to cruise, either.

Kids today wouldn't even understand Fast Times at Ridgemont High, other than the Phoebe Cates pool scene.

That, and all laws about any type of substance have become extremely more strict than "back in the day"

By "cruise," do you mean cruise like like Matthew McConaughey or cruise like Al Pacino?

Kids these days don't own cars nice enough to show off by cruising.
