Was going to pick up some applewood chips and smoke some cod in the oven tonight.
Anybody on here had success smoking fish in the oven?

What kinda fish? I'm not a fan of smoked fish but I'm interested in what you're doing

Cod. I've only done it before with salmon and halibut in the smoker a while back.

I wanted to do something different than I usually do but I don't know if this is a good choice

what is the process here? Seems like it would smoke up the house. Do you have a stove top smoker?

I don't. I've been reading about it online. You put the wet chips in a pan and place the fish on a grill rack above it

If your wood is wet, you will need significant heat to make it smoke and fish will cook before you get smoke. You could do a low heat and cook the fish like jerky, but I don't think you'd get the smoke flavor. Hell, try it out and report back.

Why in the oven? Sounds like a good way to make everything in your house smell like smoke.

Do you have a grill?

Brine it and cold smoke it at about 80 degrees for about 14 hours.

probably a bad idea unless you want to set off every smoke alarm in the house

And smell up your house for the foreseeable future

Just found out I have to go somewhere this evening and I don't want to risk smoking up the house while I'm gone. I'll have to try it next time, it looks like brining it overnight is the best way to do it
