WASHINGTON — A government website intended to make federal spending more transparent was missing at least $619 billion from 302 federal programs, a government audit has found.

And the data that does exist is wildly inaccurate, according to the Government Accountability Office, which looked at 2012 spending data. Only 2% to 7% of spending data on USASpending.gov is "fully consistent with agencies' records," according to the report

That's 619 BILLION, with a B, MISSING. In the interest of TRANSPARENCY, I would like someone in this administration to tell me, WHERE THE frick IS IT?

It's obvious the big govt. crowd is winning.

It is also obvious that the federal govt. is way out of control, and we see evidence of that almost on a daily basis.

The handwriting is on the wall. We can't afford what we have, and what we have is not good.

This would be really funny if it wasn't so incredibly sad.

Unless I am reading it wrong, I don't think its "Missing" just that 619B worth of spending wasn't reported for the transparency site

So the groups that spent this money are hiding where exactly it went to.

Did Rummie and the neocons ever find the $2.3 TRILLION, with a T, unaccounted for?

Point being, it is juvenile to act as though this is the first time in American history that government has stolen from its people.

Very well could be, but thats not what this article is saying.... Just that 619B wasn't reported to the transparency site.

The bureaucracy that monitors the bureaucracy has problems?

Color me shocked.

If that's the case you'd think the transparency site would, you know, mention the inaccuracies to someone, but I doubt any one cared enough to even look at the data.

Surely government programs don't misappropriate taxpayer money, right?

Really, this shouldn't be surprising at all.

One of the most naive things this Administration has ever said/promised/ was to be 'transparent' in their duties. You can't possibly hope to be an effective administration while trying to be this.

Oh, and I almost forgot:

Among the data missing from the 6-year-old federal website:
• The Department of Health and Human Services failed to report nearly $544 billion, mostly in direct assistance programs like Medicare. The department admitted that it should have reported aggregate numbers of spending on those programs.
• The Department of the Interior did not report spending for 163 of its 265 assistance programs because, the department said, its accounting systems were not compatible with the data formats required by USASpending.gov. The result: $5.3 billion in spending missing from the website.
• The White House itself failed to report any of the programs it's directly responsible for. At the Office of National Drug Control Policy, which is part of the White House, officials said they thought HHS was responsible for reporting their spending.
For more than 22% of federal awards, the spending website literally doesn't know where the money went. The "place of performance" of federal contracts was most likely to be wrong.

When the choices are malicious vs incompetent, incompetent is usually the safer bet.

You really have no idea what you are saying with an alarming regularity.

Have you ever gambled with someone else's money? That is what government is.

At least you aren't accusing us of being racists. Now we are being "juvenile".

I guess I'll have to grow up. Expecting a president who promised reform, transparency, and a govt. responsive to the working man to actually do what he says is being immature.

The new norm is to expect lying. I'm sorry I forgot that and it won't happen again.

The first sentence is completely separate from the second paragraph that breaks down the data they do have.
