Ive lived in the galleria, so youre hearing from someone that hates it. Constant trafiic! The advantage of staying town is that you dont have to worry about transportation to and from the game You can jump on the rail for $1 and thats a big deal come game day. Fatcor that in to your hotel rate cause youll save a lot not worrying about parking

I say downtown, the train is money for the game plus uber will take you just about anywhere you could want to go for 20 or less

This. I have an apartment in the Galleria area. It works for me because of proximity to work. But it's not a very fun area. How old are you, and what are you interested in doing?

The Galleria area is the absolute worst. I avoid it at all costs. There seems to be horrible traffic at all times, including and especially on the weekends.
I live downtown - it's by far the best option for this game. There are a bunch of bars downtown, and you'll be close to Midtown and Washington. The lightrail leads directly to Reliant and will allow you to avoid the parking disaster that I fully expect on game day.
There are a bunch of threads on this subject, btw.

I'm taking this guys advice and avoiding the train. I found the train runs every 15 minutes and had s capacity of 400. Won't it be about full by the time it gets downtown.

I have taken the train to Texans games. I have season tickets to the Texans. I will never ride the metro to a game again. AND I would NEVER do it on the first game of the year. (Which is exactly what the LSU vs Wisconsin game it) If you want to be in your seat for kick off you need to be exiting the train at 6. It might take an hour to get OFF the train! They are checking to make sure every person getting off the train has either a tailgate ticket or a game ticket. It's not just get off and walk in! And another hour easy to get in the gates! I could be wrong but I've done it before and it was miserable! There will be a lot of very upset fans if they think they can hop on the metro after 6 and make kick off!

For Texans games, most fans drive to the game. Since both teams are bringing thousands of visiting fans (most lodging downtown), that train will get overwhelmed especially after the game. While I considered taking the train to the game, I have a feeling it will be a cluster F getting back downtown when the game ends. We will stay at the Embassy Suites downtown Friday & attend Astros game. On Saturday, we will transfer to the Crown Plaza next to Reliant Stadium. I know it’s not a great hotel, but you can’t beat its location.

Fair point. It's still better than driving IMO. Being in that traffic after the game is absolutely miserable, and I'd rather be free to drink without having to worry about driving.

You could always get a hotel outside Houston. Baytown, Humble, Katy, etc. I live in Richmond which is about a 30-40 minute ride to Reliant Stadium. I have always used the monorail. I used it for the Final Four, SWAC championship and other events. I have never gone to a Texan game. IMO, there will be almost as many people at this game as any Texan game. The monorail can be busy but I have never had to wait for long time. This time might be different. I'm considering taking the park and ride.

How do I find out where the rail stops downtown? How far apart are the stops?
