What are the board's thoughts on these movies?

I just watched them both for the first time. I liked the Hurt Locker, definitely the best acting I've seen from Renner. I enjoy movies structured as small episodes that create one big loose narrative but I can see where some get turned off by that style of storytelling.

Zero Dark Thirty- Didn't much care for this one. The first few scenes were really good, I thought Jason Clarke was outstanding and honestly wish the movie focused more on him. Other than that, I thought the movie was pretty meh. Jessica Chastain kind of ruined the movie for me.

Anyone know if Kathryn Bigelow has any projects in the works? I like the style of her direction.

I absolutely loved both of them. I think the board doesn't care for Zero Dark Thirty that much, but I could be wrong. I thought Chastain was fantastic and ZDT was just about as good as it gets when you realize it's NOT about the last 30 minutes or the Marines and more about the hunt for information.

Zero Dark Thirty is great. The Hurt Locker is also very good. I would rate them 9 and 7.5-8.

ETA: And I agree with Marciano below. They are both the best movie from the years they were released.

Great movies. I thought The Hurt Locker was the best film to come out in 2009 (in the US) and the same for Zero Dark Thirty in 2012.

They are both really good. I liked Zero Dark Thirty better. I loved how they made it suspenseful and thrilling even tho its a movie where everyone knows the ending. Love them both though.

I especially love that Hurt Locker beat Avatar for best picture. fricking hated Avatar. Overrated piece of shite.

I posted this before in another thread about the hurt locker.

i loved it. For a movie where you know the main character will not die early they still did a great job with suspense.
It was one man's struggle against his own identity, hence the ending. Should it have one best picture, I'll say yes because as entertaining and well put together as bastards was I thought they did way more with less in the hurt locker.

I really liked both but Zero D30 was better to me. I liked the parts about their living conditions and how dangerous it is over there. It showed how the militant Muslims are. Enjoyed the CIA part too. Good movie. I've rewatched it 3 times.

Coming from the military side.

I like zero dark thirty even though it was slower than hurt locker.

Hurt locker was so incredibly false in regards to the military it was dumb.

Action wise, hurt locker was good and thats probably why everyone likes it.

"zero dark thirty" was the better one, imo ... i don't think the military puts up with that heroism stuff in 'the hurt locker' (based on what others have said), but i don't know ... i've read that some folks in the military/intell think 'zero' gave too much credit to the woman who was allegedly hellbent on bin laden's courier, but that could be hollywood being hollywood and taking artistic license ...
