Israel and Hamas will observe a 72-hour cease-fire beginning Friday morning, according to Secretary of State John Kerry and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

quote:

“During this period, civilians in Gaza will receive urgently needed humanitarian relief, and the opportunity to carry out vital functions, including burying the dead, taking care of the injured, and restocking food supplies,” Ban and Kerry said in a joint statement. “Overdue repairs on essential water and energy infrastructure could also continue during this period.”

Egypt proposed a cease-fire in mid-July that Israel had accepted and Hamas dismissed.

How dare Israel agree to a cease fire to allow relief.

How dare Israel agree to an Egypt called for cease fire.

I know. Crazy.

In 3 days they can continue to bulldoze Hamas.

Can't wait.

Let's see if Hamas will even keep the cease fire that long.

Oh they won't.

Then we will hear how evil Israel is being again responding to attacks.

Hamas supporters on this board are the type to blame you for punching a mugger in the face for stealing your wallet.

Only a matter of time until Hamas accidentally fires a few rockets during the cease fire

FYI, it was Israel who broke the last ceasefire. The Likudniks seem to believe that ceasefires should be one-sided.

Who are those people?

I see a lot of Palestinian sympathy. I've seen people critical of Israel. I haven't seen many singing the praises of Hamas.

PSA: You can be critical of Israel and think Hamas are despicable.

My money is on the ceasefire lasting less than an hour before more rockets fly out of Gaza.

egypt wants a time out to re-enforce the tunnels..

lol

they need to bulldoze large swaths around and through it, then quarantine each sector, when a rocket come out of a sector that one gets hit harder.. simple problem, simple solution.

Hamas needs to reload and re form, don't be surprised if there are attempts to skip commandos into Israel.

This is what we in the biz call an "operational pause." The IDF will be good and rested and resupplied in 3 days to continue the fight.

oh no...

CNN:

quote:
“Sir, the Palestinian Authority proposed a 24-hour cease-fire, Hamas has rejected that. Do you believe that Hamas truly wants peace?

PA minister
quote:
“Hamas is in fact not the target of the Israeli bombing. The Israeli bombings targeting civilians, is targeting the people of Gaza, and no doubt these civilians need a chance to survive and to live decently. You’ve just destroyed all the power station in Gaza, hospitals have been destroyed all over the place, and therefore, yes, we want a cease-fire…”

CNN:

quote:
But Hamas just rejected a 24-hour cease-fire

Leader:

quote:
Come again?

Cnn:

quote:
Hamas just rejected the cease fire

Pa Minister/Leader

quote:
“Hamas is saying — I don’t necessarily approve of all that they’re saying"

Dang it Israel!

I believe that I said that I am opposed to all theocrats whether they be Islamic (Hamas) or Jewish (Likud), but just because I oppose Hamas' theocratic agenda doesn't mean that they don't have some legitimate grievances against Israel. Hell, some of Al Qaeda's grievances were legitimate, but I still despise them and supported the invasion of Afghanistan after 9/11. I guess some folks are unable to hold two conflicting thoughts in their head at the same time. For example, I admired Mandela and everything he stood for, but when he started a terrorist organization to wage war against South Africa, the government had no choice but to throw him in prison.

Likud aren't theocrats. They're just neoconservative-style chauvinists without an ounce of foresight who think they can manipulate the theocrats in their coalition and end up getting wagged. The theocrats are folks in the right-er wing like HBHY.

My issue is supporting a complete lie to justify your stance.

An example is the fact that you tried to assert Israel was starving people, and it's just false. Your own link proved it. Not only that, but this thread shows that you are wrong... they are agreeing to a cease fire for the purpose.

I think EVERYBODY within the PT community will agree that kids are being caught in the cross fire. I think most would agree that even if Hamas was not using them as human shields that kids would be caught in the cross fire and it sucks.

1- Hamas is causing more death to kids by using them as shields. You will not agree to that.

2- You will not agree that Hamas is killing kids by using them as child labor. Have yet to see you speak out against it.
