With all the reduced limits talk, poor season talk and such, I have to ask what can I expect.

I will be on the island this time next week for 3 days. Have not been down fishing for damn near 12 years. I am sure Katrina changed some of the landscape. The rocks at Belle Pass Fourchon and East Timbalier still steady producers, especially with live bait? Reefs behind GI, the beach at first light with calm winds?

Give me some good news OB!

Worst case scenario its bull red time and theres a strong falling tide next weekend. Most trout are being caught at night time right now.

Buddy caught a few on beach yesterday, today they zipped. Just sharks, Spanish and such at barges. I'd head up north behind grand isle if you'll be there mid week.

Not just behind the island, but into the marsh/canal areas?

I fish the islands and platforms.

You can do well at a couple of those platforms at night if you feel comfortable running at night.

Mostly specs were hitting last weekend at the bridge, it was mostly white trout a few weeks ago. Smaller size but you can do pretty well if persistant. Caught a huge Jack, sharks and bull reds also. Bring some heavy duty gear if interested in the larger fish. Panfish lures double rigged for specs.

Yea i've only really caught white trout hnder the bridge lights. Go to the close platforms late evening and set up by some of the big lights low to the water and fish there at night.

I got a bunch of specks last week on the Isle. Caught two limits on the two days I speck fished. Granted those two days I fished twice, the surf and the bridge.

Lots of good info posted. I'll just add that you shouldn't plan on fishing the reefs in Caminada, because there are no more reefs. The fairly steady producers that have been there forever were pulled up last year.

Also you might get called a vagina for doing it but live shrimp in the surf could be the difference between eating trout for a few days or eating Jo Bobs. The bridge you don't want to use live bait.

Look for a place where you see some irregularity in the surf. A break in the sandbar, converging waters, etc. Get out there early and fish between the beach and first sand bar. A lot of people walk in the water and walk right past the fish. Schools move down the Island so stay put and be patient. You might get a few then nothing then a few more. I like to free line if fishing with bait.

They are running. Caught plenty in traps in the bay during Tarpon. Running lines in the surf is a good time.
