Jolie seems to be a great director as well.
Based on?. . . This is only her second movie.

I admit, though, the trailer does look good. I want to hate it, but I just can't. Will watch.

It looks good, but any movie that depicts POWs being defiant to their Japanese captors and not instantly getting shot has a little bit of bullshite mixed into it.

Or in the case of Kwai, a truckload.

I believe he was imprisoned, but I've met men who were POWs there, and they all hate Kwai for the reason above. Maybe they wanted to break him, as an example.

This movie looks pretty good. I'll probably see it opening weekend, unless the theater crowd on Christmas is the sea of reality show wannabes that it usually is.

Btw, what is her documentary A Place in Time about? I looked on imdb and there is no synopsis.

I still haven't read Fearless. So I'm not sure I want to buy another book. Anyone read both. Which one is better?

It was one man that was really behind it the most. He singled Louie out and just enjoyed torturing him basically. Especially once he finds out that Louie was a former Olympic runner.

ANd he just passed away a couple of months ago

At least he got to see it in production, and possibly a pre-release version.

I just finished the book today and the most impressive thing that Louie did was forgive "The Bird". The hell that he put Louie and those other POW's through was as close to hell as those guys ever deserve to see. The fact that he found God and was able to forgive them all is a miracle in itself.
Louie and those other POW's are true hero's for the price they had to pay in defending our freedoms.

There is no way in the world they can do the book justice. If the movie even comes reasonably close I will be pleased.

I have a feeling what will get cut the most will be his post war experiences.

There is simply no way to put the amount of detail in the movie that was in the book, and I understand. I refuse to be the guy who ever says the "book is so much better than the movie" because that's obvious.

I will see the movie and enjoy it for what it is, an entertaining showcase of the greatest story I have ever heard.

Agreed. The time on the raft could be a movie in itself

You won't be disappointed. It's a great book, but in some respects, it reads like fiction. It's almost unbelievable that Zamperini(sp?) went through the shite he did, survived and then, thrived. Most people would have given up and died. He was a special person.
