Leagues that have switched from snake to auction: How do you like it?

Anyone I have talked to has said that once you go auction you never go back. That it makes a snake draft seem like child's play.

Auctioneers, how did you like the switch?

Do you love the format?

Like it better than a snake?

I've had two main leagues switch to auction and everyone likes it over a snake.

The best thing about it is everyone has a shot at every player in the draft and in waivers throughout the season.

Snake draft and resulting teams all have similar outputs. Auction a team could have McCoy, Megaton and Graham if they wanted.

I agree with all of that.

Auction drafts are more fun to me. Toula's point about teams being top heavy is a very good point. Course, Toula sucks.

Switched to auction two years ago, and I'd never go back to a snake as my main league. Auctions are just more fun and exciting than a mind numbing snake draft.

I don't know all about that.

Yeah, everyone is into it more it seems like.

not to mention the randomness that some players get nominated.

makes for a far more interesting draft.

this guy nominated Andrew Luck before Peyton and Brees last year and got him at a real bargain.

I say that because later on, others bid way more for Matt Ryan and RG3.

I remember that when he did it, guys felt like he was kind of trolling. Like there was some order he had to follow or something.

I've been in the same auction IDP league for 14 years and it is the best way to play. Yes, it takes longer to draft. Yes, you have to give up most of a day. But if you like the people you're playing with and you draft in person, it's actually a lot of fun.

The best thing about it is you can get any player you want, as long as you can afford him.

We have a $400 cap with 24 player rosters. One year an owner spent $200 on Ladanian Tomlinson.

Interesting concept? Do y'all still nominate whoever or like top 70?

Auction is soooo much better. If you can do a live auction its way better than doing one online

Auction Draft >>>>>>> Standard Draft

Anyone saying otherwise is either too set in their ways or doesn't do their research before a draft.

Auction is so much better. Would quit my league if they tried to switch back (but no one wants to)

How do typical auction drafts work? Ive always done snake but am interested. Do you go in a circle and nominate a single player at a time from any random position and everyone bids if they want in a certain timeframe? Pretty ignorant on all this.

The responses are proof that we have to go to auction in one of my leagues.

Wanted to do it this year but never got around to it.

I'm dying to participate in one.

The shite talking has to be awesome.

I'm guessing some people drive the price up on someone they don't want and then laugh their arse off when someone buys him.

Try running a few mocks on ESPN to get yourself acclimated

Yep, but you can also get burned doing that as well. Guy in my league tried doing that with QBs and wound up blowing $80 on Brady, RGIII, and Eli Manning combined. Needless to say he wasn't laughing at the end of the draft.

Been in one for four years and love it.

Currently in a long-time snake draft where people are resistant to change. Not sure why.

If we switched to auction drafts our league would be a 4-5 team race every year. The snake draft saves alot of the players in our league.

Judging by the responses from our league members when one guy suggested it....it wont happen.

I go the extra mile...after I order the auction labels for the draft board, I get my daughter to cut all the names up individually of the top 20 players at WR, TE and RB, then top 10 QBs....i put all the names in a box and we pull names out one at a time.

Same here. Joined an auction league for the first time last year and it was a blast. My main league, however, is full of Neanderthals who fear any move away from a snake draft.
