Damn giving up Cespedes, I bet there's a lot of pissed off A's fans. I'm sure he was a fan favorite.

Pitching win championships, but I was still surprised they gave up Cespedes.

WOW. how much of a drop-off does GOMES bat provide compared to Cespedes? if its marginal yet they gain a quality 3-4 starter then the deal makes sense.

So, the A's have the best record in baseball, the fourth lowest team ERA, and decide to trade one of their best power hitters for Jon Lester?

WTF?

I don't follow baseball super close, but it seems like Samardzija and Lester are a pretty legit 1,2 at the top of the rotation.

I've seen moneyball, so I'm curious how much money each make and how much of the contract the As are picking up

It's a damn big drop off. Gomes is serviceable though..

May be.. but that is still to me the very spark of their team.. but they are a "team" type of squad and not into one superstar..
