Jermaine Jones close to joining Chicago Fire, Alexi Lalas says

Awesome but I need better sources

Chi-town has been a dumpster fire for sometime. But he lived there as a kid.

That's apparently significantly less than he was first asking for, but would still make him one of the league's top paid player.

I can't believe he was asking for more

But he is def still getting more than market value so smart on his part.

I don't keep up with MLS transfer rumors, but I imagine that he'd be a pretty damn solid source

Like them or not, Twellman and Lalas are constantly the ones breaking all USMNT/MLS news before anybody else.

OP posts one of the most reliable sources.

SCH asks for better sources.

Bringing all these USMNT boys home is great for the MLS.

Bringing all these USMNT boys is not great for the USMNT.

Jones is 32. I guarantee you he won't make the team in 4 years.

Is there any metric used to determine which players skip allocation?

Or is it more like "mls wants this player, but he`ll only join team x" ?

Yea might as well finish out your career and get paid more than you would in Europe and play in league you can still dominate in.

How far down the list was Chicago? The teams above them could have just passed on him.

Jones won't be playing many more games with the USMNT. He most likely won't play again this year because Jurgen wants to give young guys a shot.

I like the move. He should be able to provide some quality cover in their midfield. It should let young Harry Shipp do his thing.

Teams usually make trades to get to the top of the allocation order.

And SCH isn't going to believe anything unless it comes from Sky.

It is a b.s. rule that the league created after fans got pissed that Bradley and Dempsey skipped the allocation process. Now if a player signs for an amount the league determines is past a certain threshold he can skip allocation and join the team.

I think they were top 5, but the article said something like certain players skip allocation as determined by mls, ala deuce to seattle.

Maybe its a way the league saves face for cheap teams passing on good players?

Love it. Might have to tune in to a few Fire games. Been a Quakes fan for years but they've been pretty dull to watch, although new stadium should help.

Good move for JJ and MLS.

Who is going to be in their early to mid 30's in a few years for DC United to pick up for our first season in the new ground?

Lol, Alexi is as connected and reputable a source as there is in MLS. Just because you don't like his TV schtick doesn't mean you 'need better sources.'

Also, I love Alexi. The hate on this board for him is absurd. He's honest and says what he thinks. He's good TV, and he does it without spouting bullshite like Skip or Stephen A.
