It's a chance for recreational fishermen to be heard on the topic of the elusive red snapper. They are going to be here August 18th.
*SIAP I searched and didn't see anything

You need to mark this day on your calendar, because folks from the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council are going to be at Hyatt Place on Bluebonnet Boulevard in Baton Rouge to elicit public comment on something the council has labeled “sector separation.”
quote:
From all indications, the council’s “sector separation” plan will be to remove as much as 47 percent of the recreational quota for red snapper and give it to qualifying “for-hire” operations. That leaves 53 percent of that annual take for the “private” red snapper catchers.

I predict calm, rational discussion on both sides.

let me guess, 10am meeting?

This is where the cca needs to step in and call bullshite. Who are these fricktards that are coming up with these half baked assinine ideas? The danger in this country doesn't come from the politicians, it's these faceless/nameless bureaucracies that aren't elected to a damn thing, but have the power to make backwards regulations such as this.

That's what they do, and where the money goes. A lot of it is never made public to be appreciated, because that's how lobbying works.

I literally got this email from CCA 30 minutes ago:
If Amendment 40 passes, it is likely that up to 75 percent of the entire Gulf red snapper fishery will be privately held, for private profit.
The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council has scheduled a series of public hearings over the next few weeks on a dangerous privatization scheme for Gulf red snapper (see full schedule below). Reef Fish Amendment 40 - Sector Separation proposes to separate charter/for-hire businesses from the recreational sector and give personalized allotments of red snapper to use as their own.
The concept has been cast as a reasonable response to a broken federal management system, but it is a perilous development for recreational angling as it represents a huge step in the privatization of our fisheries.
Amendment 40 has only been promoted by commercial fishermen and a very select few charter/for-hire operators. It is a misguided response to a broken federal management system that delivered a nine-day recreational red snapper season in 2014. Rather than fix that system, some are seeking to take advantage of the chaos and grab a private portion of red snapper.
If Amendment 40 passes, it is likely that up to 75 percent of the entire Gulf red snapper fishery will be privately held by a few individuals, for private profit. If Amendment 40 passes, it could become the model to apply to other species under federal management. In response to a broken federal system that does not know how to manage the recreational red snapper fishery, the answer cannot be to simply lock anglers out of the fishery altogether and ignore them.
This public comment period is the last hurdle before it comes up for a final vote at the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council. Even if you do not fish offshore, privatization of public wildlife resources must be opposed by every sportsman, everywhere.
Please attend one of these hearings and speak out against Amendment 40. Personal appearances are given greater weight in this convoluted process, but if you cannot attend, use the link below to make your opinion known. Send this notice to your fishing and hunting friends and family, and urge them to get involved. We are at a precarious fork in the road that could change the way this country manages our fisheries and wildlife forever.
Click here for background information on the Amendment 40 privatization scheme and get involved. Proponents of catch shares and privatization are counting on the complexity of this issue and the frustration over red snapper to lull the public into inaction. They are counting on passing Amendment 40 before anyone really knows what's in it and what it means. Once the long-term impact of this action is realized, it will be too late.

Any chance you could provide the link here?

It's a CCA email (no link). Might be on ccalouisiana.com though

This is such bullshite. The regular fisherman stands no chance of having a lengthy season. It is all going to private business. First the Commercial guys took a huge portion and now the For Hire Charter Captains with get a huge portion of the rec catch.
They should lump the Charter Captains in with Commercial guys and split it 50 - 50.

ditto
catch what LDWF says you can catch, 2/day. if i understand things correctly, USFW can't write tickets within state waters (3nm). as long as you make it back inside this line LDWF ain't gona write a ticket for 2 red snapper/person.
if you did get a ticket from USFW i believe it goes to state district court which is local judges (political pressure may = $1 dollar fine and time served).
civil disobediance (spelling is off)

i went to the CCA meeting in br this past spring and the gmfmc girl was speaking. my take-away from what she said was: "its not our fault, we are only doing things the way congress told us to do them. if you don't like it contact your congressmen/vote." typical bureaucratic response.

This will definitely pass. (It is what their agenda is about) Do you guys believe me now?

I will be there even though I never fish for snapper. People need to show up even if it will make little difference. I'm not one of those "If you don't vote you need to shut up!" guys, but in this case I've heard the incessant yet justified bitching from countless anglers for years. Show up and at least be a face.
Stay calm and have a concise and thought out comment. CCA or the like may put out a recomended comment, which can be effective in forums like this. If they hear the same concern over and over it makes an impression.
MeauxJeaux 2 screaming "dey took er jerbs" will also make an impression.
