Refueling or Jet/Jet Escort? (Pville flyover with pictures)

I was out taking pictures with my toddler and trying to get him to say funny things on video and he spotted a "star." From the naked eye the planes looked like one, they were high enough up and catching a lot of reflection from the sun. I thought maybe refueling as I looked from the ground, but that seems odd. They held that tight of a position to each other across the entire sky.
Here are some pictures including zooms.

Definitely air to air refueling. You must have a hell of a camera.

Let's hear some conspiracies please.

I have video of it as well, but that isn't much to see. Picture a jet flying across the sky. Now picture two really close together.
They seemed fairly low. Low enough for my lil guy to spot it from a distance and say "ohhh a star!"
What would be refueling over the continental US? It was heading due south and did not appear to be descending towards MSY.

I was stationed in Italy for a short time and got to go up with a KC 135 crew. Its pretty cool its basically a huge flying gas station. We flew around for about 6 hours and fighters would come fill up periodically. Have some cool arse pics taken from where the guy who controls the fuel arm out of the back of the plane while fighters were being refueled. I might try to find them and scan a few and post them.

Almost looks like a 747 being re fueled.

I live in northeast Denham and saw the same thing. My boys were out saw them first. They were headed north to south and the boys said there was a "small jet" in front but "flew away". Never have seen that activity in this area. No conspiracy theories. Just military refueling. Cool sight to see tho.

They both seemed sizable, but one was certainly pretty big. I don't know enough to say one way or another. Is it normal to refuel a 747 in flight over the US?

Sure does. Airforce 1 ?

Aerial refueling over the US isn't really odd at all. As far as I know the only 747 that is capable of aerial refueling is Air Force One. So I doubt it's a 747. I really don't know.

Looks like a Globemaster being refueled.

Probably ran out of chemtrail material and needed to refill before going over NOLA.

Not sure if it's been answered, but that's a KC-135 refueling either a C-17 Globemaster or a C-5 Galaxy. Size comparison, it looks like C-17 as the C-5 is much larger and fatter:
