AT&T data throttling question

I have the grandfathered unlimited data plan and usually I average around 5-6GB per month. Apparently I have been streaming more music and videos this month because I'm almost up to 6GB with 2 weeks left in my bill cycle and I think I'm being throttled without any notice.
My question is do they always throttle you down to almost unbearable speeds? I'm getting .5Mbps and I can barely stream music. The office I work in does not let us use wifi so I'm stuck streaming music on LTE, but now I can't even do that. I can understand throttling, but how about a couple Mbps not a half Mbps.
I've looked into new plans, but hate to give up my unlimited. Problem is it's not worth having it for the next 2 weeks if I can't use LTE effectively.

It's ridiculous how slow these phones get if you've been grandfathered in the unlimited plan. I usually max out a week or so before the next month starts. It is frustrating to say the least

I never get a notice, and it usually throttles to exactly .5 down/up. It's excruciatingly slow. But it should be enough to stream music.
Are you constantly streaming music for 50+ hours? Are there alternatives to that? Internet radio? FM radio?
I used to get about 5-6 every month and get throttled. Got my wifi working at home and have dropped to about 3 or so.

Think of it this way...if your data is unusable for a week or two a month it's not really unlimited is it?
Take a hard look at AT&Ts 10GB mobile shared value plans. Might be cheaper and it will give you all the data you need.
Or, go to TMobile. They don't count music streamed from certain sites/services so if nearly all your data is music, you can probably get by with a small data plan.

I bit the bullet and switched to a mobile share. It's nice not to be throttled at this point in the month. I can also now use the wifi hotspot option.
AT&T wants to force you off that plan. They got me off.

.5 Mbps isn't too bad. T-Mobile throttles me to around 100kbps.

What streaming service do you use? I use Google Music and put the songs on my device so they don't use data. How about using Google music or Spotify on the computer.

You'll always be throttled when you go over 5gb in a month. Can you use a computer at work to stream music so you don't have to use your data?

No, apparently everyone at the office was streaming music all day and eating up bandwidth so that's been blocked on work computers.
