I get what you're saying but LSU is gonna look to capitalize on 2015/2016 season more than anything. They are after a ton of guards in 2016 and it'll be with the promise of early playing time. No real concerns from me there. Guards come in ready to go much more consistently than bigs. Where 12/7 for a frosh big man is enough to make them Top 10 in NBA Draft, look at the young guards both highly regarded and not coming in and producing big numbers.

Coach,
You have mentioned several times that you expect Epps and Robinson to be ready to contribute next season. What kind of off season program will take them from where they are now to a point where they are capable of playing 20+ quality minutes next year? Are there any junior college bigs available who are capable of playing good D and rebounding in the SEC? Someone who is running and jumping now might be better than a hopehecan.

I've said it numerous times. My feelings for these kids who don't play high level basketball for an extended period of time before getting to college. It is rare they are ready right away. Doesn't mean they can't get it together. It's the same thing with TQ who 95% of LSU fans wanted gone. Thought he could never play in the SEC. Now, everyone is hating on Josh Gray yet asking if their are any JC bigs. After we are seeing a JC All-American struggle. There are adjustment periods for everyone. Who knows if Epps or Elbert give you 20+ quality minutes but what about say 10-12. Then you can actually rest other players. Not sure CJJ wants to do that though.

Blakeney wasn't on the radar for LSU at this point last year either. However you're wrong if you're looking at the Top 50 in 2016 and don't see a guy named Kobi Simmons that LSU has been to see multiple times and are clearly in running for. They are recruiting others as well but I'll leave that until it comes out. Not to mention a couple in state guys who will be right around the Top 50 when it's all said and done.

Okay. I didn't really give Kobi much of a look, because LSU wasn't listed as one of the 6 warm programs. Who are some of the in state kids who look like 4-star prospects?

Might wanna vary the sites you look at then. None are comprehensive.

In State 4 Stars (may not be ranked as one yet):
Skylar Mays - UHigh
Cam Lard - NCHS
Malik Crowfield - Riverside
Dejon Jarreau - McD35

Those four have the best bet to be 4 Stars in basketball. Layssard and Wayde Sims with great summers could happen but likely will end up 3 stars as well as others in the state.

I just read an ESPN insider article where Kobi said the biggest deciding factors in his recruitment will be playing for a coach who can be a friend after basketball and a team who plays with an uptempo pace where he can make plays both offensively and defensively....

I honestly cannot think of a better set of requirements for a player to want to play for Coach Jones. We are a top 10 tempo team and everyone who meets Jones recognizes his friendly nature and his ability to win over others (which has translated into recruiting victories over the past 3 years).

You think Crowfield can make that jump? I suppose if one hot camp can make Jarreau a 4*, then Crowfield is capable.

I've seen him play since the old dunk dogs days and I'll just say this... my days of doubting the kid are over.

Is he elite? No. Is he the best athlete? No. Will he ever be looked at as a NBA prospect? Probably not. Can he give you four good years of minutes at LSU? ABSOLUTELY.

Again, Idk if he's good enough to ever start at LSU but the kid succeeds game after game. Season after season. He's used to playing with talent against the best of the best and he never fails to impress. Maybe it's the Riverside system and Timmy or maybe it's the wealth of talent around him but he always seems like the best player on his team and they win, and win big.

Any more news on Melvin Frazier? Idk how good espn bball recruiting page is but they have him as a 4 star with a grade of 80

Did some digging. Don't think he'll qualify. Gonna play summer ball while he tries to. Then prep or JUCO if not.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering why he didn't make a commitment yet.

Can anyone give me any info on Catholic's Toliver Freeman? Kid has a good build at 6'3 190+ and is averaging 19 ppg for the Bears as a junior.

Is he a D1 prospect?

Toliver Freeman

I wouldn't be supposed to see him on a power 5 roster, he has great athleticism and a feel for the game. However he will have to get used to not dominating the ball and looking to score all the time if he wants to play at the next level. At catholic he has to carry the load because he doesn't have many talented teammates.

He could possibly be a nice role player, but he won't be a high profile recruit barring a major improvement between now and next year

I go to Catholic and Toliver is being recruited by Ivy League schools. He is very smart and wants to play more in that league.
