Developer Extell moved ahead with plans last week to build a luxury tower on Manhattan's Upper West Side that will offer no river views and a separate entrance for the 55 less-affluent households that get to live in the building at way below-market prices because they won an affordable housing lottery.

Among Gotham's clownish political leaders, apparently it qualifies as "segregation" if rich people pay more to live amongst each other, a totally new and unheard of phenomenon.

quote:

"It just so happens that the rent-regulated tenants being blocked from the gym happen to be older and more often people of color than the market-rate tenants," said Levine, "which is the same as the tenants who would be affected by the ‘poor door.’”

The rent-regulated tenants just happen to be older and of color; they weren't denied the right to use the gym because they're older and of color, which is precisely why these policies don't qualify as "segregation." To call them that devalues the word.

What they preach sounds all fine and dandy until it actually happens in their backyards and then ensue to watch their property values go down.

it's bad enough that NYC requires these luxury building to subsidize a # of poor people, but they expect EVERY SINGLE THING to be equal

at what point does a property owner get to, you know, own his own property?

To me this feels similar to when in a hotel and there are separate elevators to the concierge level or the penthouse level. BIG FREAKING DEAL. Money brings privileges, and this is one of them.

As long as there are property taxes...never. You're only renting from the government who is collecting said taxes.

As long property taxes exist, never, you're essentially renting from the state. Why do we have those taxes again?

Obama. Jk

At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of it.
Be sure to read all the way to the end.

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts ;
Anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his arse.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

Put these words
Upon his tomb,
'Taxes drove me
to my doom...'

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

These are real taxes:

Accounts Receivable Tax
Building Permit Tax
CDL license Tax

In my complex, I pay about $200 a month just to live way in the back away from the traffic, have a fully renovated unit, and to stay away from the low rent 1 BR units.

If you want the nice shite, gotta pay for it. There are no one bedroom flats back here. And there are income requirements as well. You have to clear 5x the rent.

I rent because I really don't want to live in Baton Rouge forever and I don't want to keep up with a house and a yard.

People need to stfu and stop bitching about everything.

I have no desire to move to the Chuck.

How much money do you make, again? May be negotiable.

I kid. I want to go somewhere that has less humidity, is still the south, and isn't Mississippi.

Sounds like you're chasing El Dorado. If you find it, please let me know.

Just in case the poors get enough money to buy a house in our neighborhood from a lawsuit or something. The property taxes remind them they have to be able to keep up with the Jones's every year.

I don't think there is such a place.

But I really am planning on moving somewhere at some point. The company that I work for is nation wide, primarily east coast. I can't live too far from water.

I'm impossible to please.

But anyways....like Girrrl said....you pay more to keep the rif raff away. I see nothing wrong with that. Soon, liberals will want us to move them in with us, for free.

SFP, did you post this on the OT last week?

IIRC, those people are going to live in a super nice building for dirt cheap. I would gladly use a separate entrance if I got to live in a place like that for next to nothing

They don't see it that way.

When you have been given most everything free all of your life, you come to expect it. In other words, entitlement.

We even have our own separate pool in the back of my complex, that requires a swipe card to get into. It's great when I go swim laps after work and there aren't a bunch of chirren in the pool.

I'm talking about humidity, food, and not Mississippi. You would think it wouldn't be too hard to find.
