I've got another trend to complain about: signs on sticks in formal pictures

You people like to complain and everything, so I'd like to open this one up for discussion. I dislike formal pictures, including wedding, engagement, family photos where people hold up signs like "I'm the bride" or fake mustaches on children and women.
When did this become popular and why? I'm guessing about 2 years ago, but I've only seen it concentrated along the eastern seaboard from DC to NYC, but I'm not sure. I was at a wedding in New Jersey over the weekend and every picture had these props. Every single one.
...also I'm not talking about photo booths in addition to other pictures, I mean this crap exclusively in your photos.
No sir, I don't like it. Seems trashy and like one is trying too hard to be different and they will regret it later.
For example:
