Looking to take a trip soon with the g/f and looking for ideas. Other islands are up for consideration...looking to keep it around $2k/person with flight.

We stayed at the Excellence resort. It was great.
Co worker just stayed at the hard rock and said it was nice

Why not do all inclusive on the gulf coast?
It'll be cheaper and you'll never know the difference.

So you got 4 grand to spend and looking for a week of vacation. You looking to stay on a resort or get out and explore?

Paradisus Punta Cana.
Our favorite all inclusive was Sandals White House in Jamaica.

Majestic colonial and majestic excellence are sister resorts. Colonial is older but you can get a beach front room for the same price as a regular room at excellence. Food was OK, but I got some Dominican revenge on day 2, as did a few others. $2795 for 5 days, beach front, with airfare is hard to beat though.

We aren't planning on staying at the resort full time, want to get out and do some stuff. Anything extra was on top of the 4k.

Hard Rock was legit, fricking enormous and a hot tub in the middle of the goddamn room, in every single room. Incredible resort

Its been discussed here before about whether Dominican is a good place to leave the resort. I wouldn't.

What's the point of going? Hence my first post ^^^
You travel to other countries to experience the culture.

Barceló Bávaro Beach in Punta Cana was an excellent resort. It's also 18+ so there are no kids to worry about.

In Punta Cana proper, perhaps, but out a little further there are plenty of things to do/see.

I agree. Its why I wouldn't vacation in a dangerous third world country. Although it could be worth it if the resort is real inexpensive.
