We don't have to look far to see what big government and flatter income distribution looks like.

To see what the democrats are advocating simply look at Mississippi. Flatter income distribution, big government, lots of welfare. Just what the democrats want for all of us.

It's more clear why Thad Cochran beat Chris McDaniel now.

Mississippi loves them some government goodies.

The GOP apparently gets the Mississippi vote based on the social conservative side of the party and less on fiscal conservative side.

You know the answer. Just because you are obese...doesn't mean you have to be obtuse.

Nobel Prize worthy.

No doubt the GOP loves some big govt spending. Hence the recent splintering of the party.

Or this.

There's racism, and then there's the mere statement of fact.

Your map is obviously wrong. There are zero blacks in the counties of Louisiana.

(psst. BTW 3 of the top 5 socialist states are squarely in the yellow on your map. Wyoming. West Virginia. Alaska. thought you might want to know that fact. since you like facts so much. (you might want to consider that you missed that because you are a racist.))

Using spending as a percentage of GDP is a flawed way to determine how socialist a state is. It will make rural red states look more socialist because states like Alaska and Wyoming are large in land size and sparsely populated...it costs more to maintain Gov't services and infrastructure and there is a small tax base to draw from and very little in terms of manufacturing and business.

States like New York that aren't as large in size but have huge populations have a large tax base and tons of established manufacturing so therefore spending as a percentage of GDP would be lower.

You can't paint with a broad brush on these issues, you have to look at each states' particular situation, policies, and demographics. Mississippi is largely due to an agricultural economy with a large portion of poor minorities. Wyoming has a small tax base and a lot of land to maintain. West Virginia was centered around coal and federal regulation has killed that industry.

A lot of times, there are outside factors at play and you could make an argument that the states would be in worse shape under democrat control. It is in no way an indicator that conservatives of those states are hypocrites, though I will admit in Mississippis case a lot of them are hypocrites. States like Wyoming and Alaska though are not..

Government services aren't socialism in Alaska.

Got it.

MS has lots of blacks and southern democrats. It's not more socialist or liberal than Vermont, Connecticut, Mass, California, or Oregon.

I disagree with that. None of those states have so many people on welfare and depend so much on industries that are welfare driven like farming.

Mississippi has a much flatter income distribution--the socialist dream--than any of those states too.

I agree those state think more liberally and they have the riches to enjoy such luxury. Move the poverty in Mississippi to Vermont and they would vote red too. Let them have a first hand look at what the policies they advocate produce and they will think differently.

Mississippi is red because enough people are there that see the failures of welfare.

Let me try to explain this to you.

You have State A which is twice the size of State B. State A and B both have to maintain highways and state troopers, state parks, etc. State A has half the population of State B even though it is twice the size of State B.

Common sense would tell you that maintaining the basic services of State A would take a larger percentage of GDP than State B due to a smaller tax base and more land to maintain roads and such on.

It's a flawed statistic because all Government spending is not Socialist. Gov't has a role in certain areas. Wealth redistribution is socialist. If you were to look at what percentage of State's populations receive Gov't entitlements the list would be entirely different.

Here, let's try looking at the 11 states that have more people on welfare than working.

MS actually has low taxes and gives less per person in entitlements than most states. We just have a large portion of the population on welfare.

The income disparity in this state is huge..not much middle class at all. You have some that are really wealthy and the rest are really poor. The Delta has a higher income inequality than middle eastern countries where the oil barons reside and everyone else is poor.

MS is red due to the GOP taking the religious side of social issues. We've never been a very conservative state fiscally..that trend is just starting to take hold here.

Oops. Right you are, for once. I can't open the link, so when I read your typically limp little post, I thought you were making the same tired welfare recipient argument.

My bad. I'll let the others continue destroying the dishonest formula for making this list. Good luck. As always, you're gonna need it.
