Does anyone have any advice on selling gold and silver bullion and junk coins? Thinking of cashing some in, and of course want to get the best price. I know there are many places that advertise buying these, but am sure some are complete rip-offs, and some are fairly reputable.

Does anyone have any experience with reputable dealers in the New Orleans, or Baton Rouge area? Any advice is appreciated.

Something to remember, a lot of these places that have a sign 'We buy silver & gold' pay .25-30 cents on the dollar.

If I were you I would google the spot price, call around and find whoever will give you the best cash in relation to spot.

ETA: I wouldn't let that eagle go for less than $1300 right now.

Southern Coin and Precious Metals on Zenith St in Metairie. Many pawnshops turn around and sell their precious metals to Southern. They handle rare and graded coins, as well as precious metal sold for scrap. Fair prices set by the previous days spot pricing. A good place to liquidate volume holdings without lots of hassle.

I've often wondered about this. You buy and they want a premium over spot.

You try to sell and they offer you less than 50% of the current spot price.

I have only been treated fairly both ways dealing with an individual... one that I personally know, not a creep from craigslist.

I've sold plenty, and Southern Coin/Precious metals never offered me anything less than the previous day's spot price. Don't bother with the small guys or individuals....they're turning around and selling to a volume place (ie, Southern Coin). They won't bat an eye if you show up with 10,000 pre-1965 silver quarters, grandma's silver tea service, or the gold from your dead uncle's teeth.

SCPM uses a handheld spectrometer to determine the precious metal content, shows you the data, and pays you accordingly. No shady characters, no BS, and a check issued on the spot....bank is across the street. If you need to liquidate volume, it's the ticket.
