How would you grade the Orlando Magic's offseason?

Remember, the previous GM destroyed salary cap and Dwight Howard made an exit.

I am hearing one side that the Magic will be a 6-8 seed and I am hearing other another side that the Magic will be tanking again.

They won't make the playoffs, but they certainly won't be the worst team in the league. Magic are definitely getting better though.

Channing Frye is kinda overpaid but I could see him hitting a ton of 3's off their guards penetration. Plus nobody else on the team can shoot.

If they didn't get Payton in the draft, bad. With that said, they have a nice core to build upon. Payton, Oladipo, and Vucevic has their future outlook on the upswing. If they can get one of those young PFs to develop into a consistent player, they can be a playoff team a year from now. While overpaid, Frye fits the roster well and provides some veteran leadership.

Ben Gordon

2nd year is unguranteed so they could flip him as an expiring.

Everybody relax.... This genius also gave us these 2 great threads:
Why LBJ should go to Magic

Bosh to Magic if they get Wiggins

Dont be too hard on him.

But in regards to the Magic offseason, I love Payton so that was a great get. At the same time, he and Oladipo are similar players and cant shoot the 3. Not sure how those 2 will work together. Indifferent on Gordon. Could be a beast, could be a bust, could be a tweener like Tobias Harris. Not sure how I feel about him.

Signing Ben Gordon was dumb. I like Frye but a little overpaid, not a lot though.

The Afflalo trade was shite. Afflalo for Fournier and 56th overall. Pretty much gave him away for nothing. And I like Fournier and hes my favorite guy yall got outside of the draft. But the Nuggets still bent yall over in that trade.

Future is bright for Orlando. Vucevic is a stud and 1 of the more underrated players in the NBA. A lot of young talented players and itll be interesting to see how they grow in the NBA. But Orlando is still a few years away.

Big Aaron Gordan way too high and he looked awful in summer league.

Traded away Aaron Afflalo for basically nothing.

Signed Ben Gordan to an absurd deal

Overpaid for Frye as well

I like Payton, Dipo, Tobias Harris, and Vucivec, but their offseason wasn't too good.

The guys they drafted have projected high ceilings, but they aren't taking to the playoffs for at least a couple more years.

Huge Magic fan. This off-season is a complete fricking wreck. How can I count the ways. Here are a few:

1. Ben Gordon
2. Channing Frye
3. Wasting the 4th pick on a goofball that can't even shoot.
4. Relying on Vucevic again with no backup Center.

This will be a disaster.

I also think they should have invested in a traditional 4 that does the basics like rebound and score.

My pick for them was Marcus Smart though. I thought given Exums question marks he would have been the best pick for them. Payton is solid but they could have done so much more with the 4th pick.

Vic will improve his 3 point shooting a ton. I have no doubt about that. Payton may, but I'm not as confident. He's compared to Rajon Rondo though, and I can see it. If he consistently gets in the paint, it's fine.

Aaron Gordon is 18 friggin years old. Don't expect much now. But, his jump shot isn't broken. He can jump out the gym and can defend the 4 or the 3 as we speak. Give him time. He'll only be 22 by the time his rookie contract is up.

Rob Hennigan knows what he's doing. He's got job security. His vision for a few years from now is:
Vucevic
Gordon
Harris
Oladipo
Payton

The Magic are the youngest team in the league with unbelievable athleticism and a TON of cap room. They can sign a big time free agent either next offseason or 2016.

Areas to improve are outside shooting and paint defense.

People are over reacting.

First off Gordan was not a reach. Several GM's with top ten picks have said they were prepared to take him.

People get too caught up with what the mock drafts say.

The kid is only 18 years old. So clearly there is no way he can improve.

Then there are the people complaining about Ben Gordan.
Two things. One the Magic had to spend money to hit their cap floor. Two, his second year is not guaranteed. Same thing with Luke R.

Also the Magic did not trade away AA for nothing. Guess what guys, the NBA executives are not dumb, so I'm sure they had a good understanding of his worth and knew what other teams were prepared to offer. I'm assuming they saw something in Evan that they like.

Remember when everyone said we traded away Dwight for nothing and lost the trade?

The Magic have had to start from the ground up. We now have cap room and flexibility and young talent and assests. It will be a process, but I am happy with the direction we are heading in.
