Anybody else duck hunt with an old shotgun?

I grew up on an old belgium made A5 in 16ga. Those guns have always just felt right to me so I picked up an old model A5 12ga back in the spring and plan to use it this season in a little timber hole I hunt. Shot some clays with it about a month ago and it shoots great. Bought several boxes of 2-3/4 Rio bismuth #4's to shoot out of it. Anybody else makin' it rain with the old A5's, Model 11's, Model 12's etc?

Late 60s/early 70s 1100 here. I personally think it shoots much better than any new gun I have shot

I recently retired my old 870 Wingmaster and Model 12 for duck hunting. Is bismuth a safer alternative for old guns than steel?

I save my old sxs shotguns for softer shooting shells. Duck get the Beretta...

Is an 11 year old Browning Gold old? If yes, yes. I got a new model wood stock A5 last year, but that's more for the collection than for use as a duck gun.

Interested in this as well. Have an old A5 that has been demoted to squirrels and rabbits b/c not supposed to be good to shoot steel.

Bismuth will not damaged barrels.

After thinking about it, my first duck gun was an 870 Express 12 Gauge from Wally World. I was like 15 and out of my little click of future duck commanders, I was the 2nd one to move on up to the 12. That was 27 years ago and I still break it out from time to time, but not sure if it counts as an old shotgun.

Have been hunting with a 1966 vintage Merkel 12 ga sxs for about 25 years. It was chambered for 3" and I used to duck hunt with it but got tired of the punishment and switched to a gas operated Beretta. I still use the SxS to hunt doves and quail with. Bought some 24 gram light loads and it really tames the recoil.
As I understand, bismuth is safe for older shotgun barrels.

Mine obviously started out shooting lead, but I've been shooting steel for as far back as I can remember(given to me mid-90s). No visible damage to it, but I wouldn't know where to look anyway

I've never been bird hunting. But if I ever go, it will be with either my Sweet Sixteen or my Light Twelve. They were my grandfathers and were passed on to me. Dad never was the outdoor type. All my hunting has been with Uncles and friends, and they're mainly interested in deer and hogs.

I have an old A5 -- was told not to shoot steel.

I did once, but then I had to buy a new TV.

It is cheaper to buy a new gun for steel that it is to feed an old gun bismuth...

Yep, I've hunted the past 4 seasons with my 1978 Rem 1100 20g for Ducks and dove. I made the switch to the 20g after I had spinal fusion surgery in my neck and haven't looked back. The gun shoots so damn well , it's light, low recoil and I can knock them dead with it. Sure I don't have quite the range as I would with a 12 but I don't really care. I plan to purchase a new 20g, Browning, 1100 or Beretta with a 3" capability and with a choke system. The 1100 I have wasn't designed for the new shell types with steel and etc. So I worry about barrel damage.
I bought my son a Browning Maximus 12g a few years back and I really like the gun. I've hunted with a Beretta a390 12g for the past 28 years until in started shooting the 20-1100. So I don't know what I want but it will be either a Beretta, Browning or an Rem. 1100 . leaning towards the Browning Silver 20g.

If you shoot it in the older "Belgium" barrels, it will bulge the end of the barrel.
Browning started using imported barrels in the last few years of production on the A5's. You could always buy one of those newer barrels just for duck hunting.

None of the shotguns made before about 1985 or 1990 were made for steel shot

Shoot a Remington 1100 passed down from grandpa. Gun is over 40 yrs old, hasn't jammed once. Wouldn't trade it for anything new
