Anybody made it out to the bay recently to go fishing? We head out of Lafayette, so Intracoastal City is the nicest place to put in. We went out yesterday and never even had a bite. No trash fish or anything. Anybody having any luck out there? Mind sharing the specifics of where you've been going, what you've been using for bait, what you're hooking, etc.? Any help is appreciated.

I'm guessing all that rain Friday ruined the fishing for a while. Might want to try around the Bluffs/Cote Blanche bay

Atchafalaya River stage is critically important in catching anything in Vermillion Bay.

If that thing it pumping out water, you won't catch anything.

Are there any websites to check to see the amount of fresh water getting pumped into the bay? Where do you usually check?

River stage needs to be below 10' to catch good at Cypremort Point. I'd guess VB is similar.

there is a website that tells the salinity level in the bay....I'll see if I can find it.

1-2 weeks ago lots of trout were being caught offshore, I'm sure this rain will set the trout fishing in the bay back a few days or weeks.

USGS has stations in Vermillion Bay (2 of them I believe). Once at Intracoastal and the other at Cypremort Point

The bay is plagued by fresh muddy water from the atchafalaya. Also, due to the large area of open water if the wind kicks up the waves will stir up the water and make it like chocolate milk. As was the case last weekend. The key to fishing the area is finding clean salty water, and that can be very challenging to do. This time of year your best bet is the close in platforms and the reefs around SW pass. Sept through nov is the best time for fishing inside the bay.

I use these links.

If you head down to freshwater city, you'll find plenty of redfish!

Been striking out folks. Hit up the Redfish Point, Marsh Island, the Southwest Pass, and even out to the rigs in Tiger Shoal. Caught as many hardheads as we could reel in out by the rigs, but nothing anywhere else. The water is nasty in the bay, and we didn't find anything clean until we got about a mile past the SW Pass. Anybody have any suggestions for this time of year? Should I just trailer the boat and head down to Big Lake or Cocodrie?

From everything I'm seeing/reading about that area is it's still too early in the year for decent productivity. With all the rain we've had recently the water in the bay was very fresh and very muddy when we went in the yaks last weekend to check it out. It's close to home so this is a place I plan to fish regualarly in the coming months.

There's fish somewhere. Out by the rigs, the catfish were on every cast. I just need to find the rigs that have the specks rather than the cats. Anybody had any luck at the rigs.

I know Big Lake is on right now, and they're tearing em up at Cocodrie. But the bay is much closer, and if the fish can be found, I want to go find them.

Any of the shallow water rigs putting out a good crop?
