Got an email this morning that the company wants an immediate stop to all company owned vehicles that are being used for personal use.

Do you use your co. vehicle that much for personal use?

I run errands on my way home, stop at the gym, but once I get home it stays there until I go back to work.

Yes, I pay for the fuel for any personal trips or excessive personal mileage.

All I drive is my company truck. My personal averages about 2k miles per year.

Usually your company will give you guidelines

Many of them give you some freedom with it for a price

Cue all the bitching by employees who don't realize that the vehicle is a rolling liability whether it is being used for business or not

My company pays me mileage. I never do any personal things and charge them mileage

Something like that is totally unethical. I would never do that

I do not have a personal vehicle. I use my company vehicle for everything.

That was part of the deal, we can use them for personal use as long as it wasnt a vacation out of town or anything.

I'm phasing out company vehicles and going to a vehicle allowance.

I'd much rather have a vehicle allowance.

So would I, the problem is I don't have a personal vehicle anymore. The one I had was paid off too.

Everyone uses their work truck for personal use but on the official they "don't".

Just carry on as usual if you're not getting in trouble. Someone likely got in trouble and now the company is CYA.

Lots of big companies are following this now too. We don't see nearly as many SLB or Halliburton trucks in driveways anymore

I have to keep my personal vehicle, I use it on weekends and if I go out at night. I can't take the work truck out once I get home.
