As time goes by I have grown to appreciate this show more and more. It may be because I've gotten older, got married and had kids and can relate better. It seems like every scene is spot on. The actors' deliveries are pitch perfect. The interaction between Ray and his dad when they paint the house should have won some awards.
Anyone else find the show getting better with time?

Second greatest sit com of alltime.

The wife is such a count it ruined the show for me.

Without the laugh track, it could be a harrowing family drama.

No. It gets more annoying. He's spineless and I get that that's the joke, but it gets old. All of the characters are grating, annoying and the jokes are predictable.

I have always thought it was cool that it's final episode was just a regular episode instead of the big productions most series put on.

I wanted to punch Debra several times. She's a terrible wife.

I dunno about that. Ray never seemed to meet her halfway and doesn't realize he probably out kicked his coverage. Also, having the intrusive in-laws always up in your business earns Debra a pass with me.

sounds like the big bang theory

The episode where Ray and Debra renew their vows.

This. I would give her a pass. Not to mention that Patricia Heaton looked great for her age.

I still have a couple issues with the show.
1. Ray's wife Debra is a raging bitch. Just an uncompromising, incredible bitch to the point that she's almost unbelievable as a human character. She has almost no redeeming qualities outside of being hot when her hair is long and down, but much of the show it's cut short or up. Raymond clearly outkicked his coverage looks wise, but she has the personality of Frau Farbissina
2. Where are the kids? You would think that having that many kids that they would be all up in Ray's business all of the time. However, they're noticeably absent most of the time unless they're needed for a specific bit or story line.
Outside of that, it's a pretty great sitcom. My dad is very Peter Boyle-esque and my mom could very well transition into a "Marie" once she's a grandmother. My oldest brother reminds me of Robert, so the show is very accessible to me.

There was a flashback episode where it was revealed that it was Deb's idea to move across the street from Ray's parents. He warned her, but she pushed. I'd say she deserved what she got.

This is one that I've seen in syndication over the years, and I always wonder how it was so popular. I've evern started a thread about it on here years ago wondering if people liked it.

I get tired of the dumb husband, smart wife trope that's used all too often in network sitcoms

It's great for a three camera, network sitcom.
Good writing and I appreciated the fact that they made a family sitcom and somehow left the kids almost completely out of it.
They must have spent most of the series chained in the attic.
