They're real, more so for some than others. Usually at some point in their late 40's to mid-50's, folks start assessing their lives realizing that they may well be going into their final third of their lives. Some handle it better than others. Some guys go into panic worrying that their dicks are going to be good for only pissing in a few years (not true if you take care of yourself), worried they don't have enough money or toys, that it's their last shot at getting the trophy wife, and/or worry that they won't be far off from health failing, maybe even the dreaded prostrate or heart bypass procedures. Some females worry about losing their physical beauty and hit the panic button, or start wondering if their life is fulfilling enough. Many divorces happen during this period and all too frequently the one wanting out eventually realize that they made one hell of a mistake that frequently can't be taken back. This was probably not as evident a century ago as life expectancy wasn't what it is now and as a society we were not as affluent then as now.
