I bought a light action spinnnig rod/reel combo and some 4lb line.
I'm planning on using a slip bobber and fishing with live minnows at first, I also purchased an assortment of different color jigs and tubes.

From what I read, if I'm fishing early in the morning before the sun is high then my depth should be about 2ft and try to set my line near some trees or grass beds. Later in the day fish anywhere from 2-10ft.

Tickfaw/Blood River area is where I'm gonna try.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

You can also try at night if homes/ camps have underwater fish lights. Hit the outer edges...

Minnows or artificial?

Which is best for night fishing?

shinner or blue and white jigs work well. I tend to find the bigger fish in the deeper water on or near the bottom...

A chartreuse and black colored jig with a red head on a jig pole has never let me down, even when they have lockjaw. I've gotten accustomed to automatic fishers with shiners in my older years, however.

Yep.

It is my understanding that Spring (spawn) is the time for crappie because they ramp up feeding pre-spawn and then protect their eggs. Their spawn is triggered by amount of daylight. We are waaay past spawn now so you are just trying to catch another fish at this point. I believe they are only going to be deep now... 5 feet or more.

I would move up to 8-10 lb test line.
Sac a lait on average are bigger than Bream.

With spider wire you can keep your 4 lb thickness and have a 10 lb test line.

I have never hit them good on tickfaw. I know some people have on blood river though, and even natalbany and ponchatoula creek

I never use more than 6, and use 4 more often than not.
