they do that in this area in the median (turn lane) sometimes to stop and grab some cracklins and boudin but i never seen an idiot just stop on the highway for McDonalds

Not the shoulder? I'd have called the cops.

We have around 24 trains a day come through town and the tracks cross the middle of the main intersection in town. There is a Burger King on the corner of this intersection. One day the conductor stopped the train and went in for a burger. Backed up traffic for about 15-20 minutes.

He may have been waiting for the track to clear and knew how much time he had.

Glad there's an 18 wheeler thread so I don't have to start one. I am driving across the country right now. Why do some truck drivers In the left lane drive the same speed as The guy in the right so you cannot pass? I had to drive in the left shoulder to get around a guy who was driving 60 in the left lane. It was so damn annoying.

The intersection is within feet of the switching yard with multiple tracks. Pic of intersection. Burger King is behind the billboard.

And that yard may not be long enough for him to park on. And he also may have been waiting for another train to enter the yard so he could pass.

To be accurate, the one in the left lane is driving 65, the one in the right lane is driving 64. F them, but I'm not hitting the shoulder to go around them.

the reason is, those trucks can't accelerate very well, and it takes a while for them to get up a head of steam to pass, and if they get behind the power curve and slow down, it takes forever to get their momentum back up, so when they make their move to pass, and particularly if there is any upgrade, it takes them forever to get around another truck that's doing the same thing

That's why there are signs posted up and down the interstates for trucks to stay in the right lane.

Firetruck stopped in the right hand lane on I-20 West between Augusta and Columbia right in front of me( it is only 4 lanes instead of 6 at that point). Didn't even go to the shoulder. nearly ran into him.

It is okay to disobey the signs as long as you obey the unspoken rule of the road: don't drive like an a-hole.
