Bump the thread where you argued about where the Astros would finish in the nl central two years after they moved to the AL.

This is from an 18-year-old kid who turned down $5 million dollars less than a year ago and just had Tommy John surgery. Could the Astros have handled his situation so poorly that even now, with all that has happened, he doesn't regret taking the last minute offer? Apparently so.

This seems silly as I dont think it's logical to think he'd come out and say he regretted it.

CJ thinks the kid actually wrote that. That kind of willful ignorance is kind of cute, in a dumb troll former pitcher sort of way.

do you think he's going to come out and say he was dumb for not signing for $5M?

Thanks, troll.

I'm sure the Astros wish they had something like two top 5 overall draft picks this year to address this alleged problem.

Matt Harvey and Jose Fernandez will be coming back from Tommy John surgery this year, it is hardly a career ender for elite level talent. Elite level people though are much harder to come by, and the Astros let one get away.

So he is comparing a 17 year old high school pitcher to two proven, legit MLB aces that have cy young potential in the very near future? Reaching much there?

The handling of Aiken, Jacob Nix, J.D. Martinez, Bo Porter and the mystery of whatever happened with Ryan Vogelsong and the Astros this past winter has not been a good look for Houston.

Aiken & Nix were a package deal. They were not exclusive. Messing up negotiations with one meant messing up with the other - it was unavoidable. Nix is the only one out of everyone on this list who got the raw end of the deal. But even Nix knew going in his deal was contingent on Aiken signing.

How many chances was JD given in Houston? 2 or 3 straight years for being an opening day starter. He didn't work out in Houston, but that happens all over the MLB level. Guys sometimes need a change of scenery for whatever reasons.

Bo Porter? Really? He wasn't ready to be an MLB level manager material regardless of how this writer spins it. Other teams thought so highly of him as a manager that he went right back to being a third base coach after being fired as a manager.

And then Ryan Vogelsong...Umm, sorry the Astros didn't give a 38 year old, borderline 5th starter what he was asking for.

If that list is CJ Nitowski's arguments, then yes to your question.

You need to remember this is the same guy who said Altuve shouldn't have been an all-star last season

That article is absolute trash. No Porter was far and away the worst manager in baseball. He was horrible. There aren't many details surrounding what happened with Vogelsong.

JD Martinez completely retooled his swing once he got to Detroit. He has every opportunity in the world in Houston. He was a fan favorite while he was here and most Astros fans are happy to see him do well. He's a great guy.

CJ Nitowski is a clown.

i may not be always right, but i was right about the Astro's farm system not being as good as people thought when they jumped from the mid 20's to the top 3 in a season.

What the frick do JD Martinez and Bo Porter have to do with anything regarding this topic? JD Martinez was given numerous chances and did not perform. He got a change of scenery, hidding behind a potent lineup, and is succeeding. No one knows if he will sustain his production from last year and if he does, good for him.

Bo Porter was fired because he fricking sucked.

I have never bought into the ranking of farm systems, since we never really know how good one really is until guys reach the bigs and/or trades are made with the talent to improve the big league club.

I think the fact that a team can be jumped so much so fast is a sign that the actual rankings are crap. It's all relative.

The way Astros fans have reacted to Aiken having TJ is pretty pathetic.

Yep. But for the sake of arguing:

The farm system could potentially give the Astros two superstars (Springer, Correa), a top of the rotation pitcher even if he isn't an ace (Appel), an already proven MLB power hitter (Gattis, who was acquired with prospects) plus a few more serviceable everyday players (Moran, Singleton type of players) all within a 2 year period. They may not have had a top three farm system, but you rarely get that level of help that quickly without being one of the better systems.

I'm sure they'll either manage to frick up and not sign both or end up reaching on somebody who isn't deserving to go top 5 so they can afford it.
