Only two schools, LSU and California, had more than five underclassmen in this year's draft. Six of LSU's seven players were chosen, while only two of the six from Cal were drafted.

Ouch.

I wonder if LSU knew this was coming and i wonder if it weighed in the decisions of the players that left early.

The kids base their decision heavily on the NFL grade they are being told from evaluations. The less evaluated, the less leave.

In theory

Giving fewer grades will not impact the number of players that enter early. It's a misguided policy, IMO.

LSU could have less juniors leave in the future.

Limit to how many can get a draft grade.
Doesn't prevent players from declaring anyway because of academics or family situations.

There will be exceptions for special situations. I assume that means when schools have more than 5 players that could potentially be drafted high.

I don't see how this would impact that

Don't get your hopes up. LSU players will go pro with or without evaluations from the NFL. That's what happens when you are NFLU

This is a crazy idea. How the hell does a Univeristy determine which 5 get evaluated. How does a sschool tell someone, "Sorry you didn't make the cut for evaluation." Not sure this ruling sticks around very long.

The NFL realizes that its pool of prospects is overflowing. They can't evaluate the glut of talent in the amount of time given, so they're giving themselves more time by restricting the number of evaluations they will grant.

For the NCAA, this improves the product of football because it will entice those borderline pros to stay one more year and have a guaranteed evaluation prior to irreversably leaping into the draft.

This is another jab against the NCAA's much exploited free labor pool because it puts up another barrier from an amateur profiting off of their marketable talents.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm glad to hear Satan speak out on this.

So the school determines who gets evaluated or a 3rd party picks?

shite won't change a thing, but makes the NFL look like they care. They wanted this all along.

Pointless....

What if you have 6 underclassmen that all would get drafted before the 5th? All get graded but the last player, even though he still is projected to be drafted?

In theory it sounds nice. But when it comes down to it, it really doesn't matter. And it's actually BS they won't give someone that is draft eligible an eval just because that school has more than 5 underclassmen going in the draft.

If you have someone like Odell, did he really need a draft eval to make his decision? Surefire guys won't need them.

The universities will be angling to use the evals on the borderline guys that really need to info to help them make the decision.

I like the little loophole that has been buzzing ever since we found out that TAMU spent 50,000 on an insurance policy for Ogbeuhi to stay for 2014.

Maybe that could entice some guys from leaving early

Yeah true.

And plus, wouldn't the teams still eval a player anyways??

And id be pissed about this if I was a part of an nfl teams scouting dept. There are a lot of guys that are unknowns and get drafted in the 3rd - 5th round and become some good NFL players. Take Trai Turner for example. He was unheard of because he was a RS soph that declared for the draft. Has a great combine and catches everyone's eye, then they watch the film and he turns into a mid round pick.

So you're telling me the nfl won't give him an eval just because there are more than 5 underclassmen turning pro from his school?? That's dumb. Plus, all the teams will make their own eval of the player anyway. It's not like the teams just read the nfl eval and use that. They make their own.
