The signing of Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane to matching 8 year deals, basically locking them up for the rest of their careers , got me thinking about this.

What were some other great pairs of teammates that spent most of/ all of their careers together?

Jagr/ Lemiuex comes to mind, but Jagr came more towards the end of Mario's career

Doughty/Kopitar/Brown from the Kings are putting up a pretty damn solid argument here.

Crosby and Malkin. Already won a Cup and possibly the top two centers in the world. Good chance both are Penguins for life (I could see Malkin playing the last few years of his career with another team but not until his mid-late 30s. I think it's more likely Crosby never leaves but you never know).

Thought of this too, but they didn't play on the same line very often? Would say Robataille / Gretzky / Kurri

You guys are probably too young you remember Lemieux / Jagr. They were awesome in their prime, and better than Kane / Toews.

Bossy, Trottier, and Gilles: the Trio Grande were awesome in their prime. They used to be called LILCO (Long Island Lighting Company) back in the day because they lit the lamp so much.

It's a shame that Semin mailed it in otherwise you would have Ovechkin / Semin in the conversation as well.

Modano / Bellows should be in there if you want to talk about Kane / Toews in terms of players making each other better.

Clark / Gilmour

Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, and Sid Abel (the Production Line)

Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg have been pretty good as well.

It was only for a few years, but they were great years.

Yzerman/Lidstrom was pretty ridiculous.

Gretzky/Messier is cheeating a bit, as the team also had about a billion other Hall of Famers. I mean, that Paul Coffey guy was pretty good, and Kurri was Gretzky's winger.

Crosby and Malkin have only won one Cup, but in their defense, the rest of their team sucks so much right now that light doesn't escape. They really are as close to a two-man team as we'll see.

But I would go Bossy/Trottier. 4 straight Cups, and their entire careers were primarily on the Isles (Trottier had a few years on the Pens at the end as the Official Grizzled Vet with a Ring). Arguably both top 20 players all-time. Beat the Oilers. Pretty much awesome in every way.

Currently, Benn/Seguin is right up there as a pair.

Well, I wasn't referring to Crosby/Malkin as the best all time, just currently. But based on the OP's stance, I think Crosby and Malkin fit the criteria much better than Jagr and Lemieux, as the OP seems to be asking more about teammates that played all/nearly all of their NHL careers together. Lemieux played his first six seasons in Pittsburgh without Jagr. He also played his last four without Jagr (although Lemieux was pretty limited in GP those last four seasons). Jagr played four seasons in Pittsburgh where Lemieux didn't play a single game and he's about to enter his 10th season on a team not named Pittsburgh. Lemieux and Jagr only played seven seasons together. For Lemieux, that's 7/17 seasons with Jagr. For Jagr, that's 7/21 seasons with Lemieux.

Crosby only played his rookie season without Malkin; Malkin's played his entire NHL career with Crosby. They're about to enter their ninth season together. They've ALREADY played more seasons together than Jagr and Lemieux did their entire careers. Malkin's signed through 2022 and Crosby's signed through 2025. Now, obviously, things like trades can happen, but it seems very likely the two of them will play the vast majority of their careers together.
