Farting around in guitar center today picking up instruments I will never be worthy of playing and I noticed it is harder to find American Martins. Meaning before if you looked in the $500 range it was going to be a Mexican guitar. Today they crept up into the $800 range. $800 dollar acoustic with no electronics and it is Mexican made? Have to go 1500-2000 and up range to find made in USA. Taylor seem similar. Also saw a Breedlove that was $800 and made in Korea.

Yep, buying anything made in the USA is going to cost a small fortune. I bought a made in USA SG and almost cried, but it is pretty damn amazing.

Regulations are killing any sort of manufacturing here. OSHA, EPA and so on.

If you want an amazing guitar for a fraction of the cost, I suggest eBaying a 1977-1978 Takamine. This guitar is literally identical to the Martin D-28 (They were actually sued because of it).

Made in USA SG's can be had for like $800. Definitely Gibson's best bargain and amazing guitars, too. I love mine.

I handed down a Korean made Ovation Celebrity to Deuce and it was a very nice guitar for the price.

I don't balk at certain entry and even mid-level guitars coming from Mexi, Korean or Chicom plants - however, it wasn't that long ago where $750 and up was American made.

The Squier classic vibe strats are great and they're under $400. They're probably made in either China or Indonesia. I'm sure there are lemons in the mix but the ones I've played have been really nicely built.

I have a Squier classic vibe Telecaster that's very nice. Made in China.

Yeah, I should have said all of the classic vibe guitars. The Jazzy's, Jag's, and Mustangs are awesome, too.
