Is this the new norm? Local business owner(s) pushing an upsell stating your child is good enough to qualify for select team.

Said child is female and under age of 10. Cost is approximately 3.5 x normal amount.

Truth? Or follow the money?

I've heard that travel ball crap is miserable.

Just let them be kids

I agree. However in this instance, it is dance related.

I vote to bring back normal Little League where you used to have to shove the untalented kids in right field. Travel ball has more to do with the parents' failed life goals and desperation to be involved in some twisted, pathetic and exclusive social group.

Okay. Travel dance. A miserable, money burning exercise that will sap any enjoyment out of what should be a leisure activity and make you and your kid resent the lost time and funds.

My girl wants to do it and has my wife convinced, but she is a child and that's what she is supposed to do.

On the other hand, I am skeptical but if I say no, which I can, I will be the insensitive father and a-hole husband.

I thought baseball tournaments were boring, until I started going to dance competitions.
I feel your pain.

For what it's worth, I have no vision of my daughter becoming a professional or recreational dancer of any kind when she gets older. I aspire for her to do so much more.

Be her dad and make a decision that will benefit her by giving her her childhood back. She'll pout for a week then forget about it because she's busy playing with her friends instead of going to practice 6 nights a week and traveling to ridiculous "competitions" shaking her undeveloped stuff like a bourbon street stripper every weekend.

Agree. And she had had a blast in recreational dance, but because she is so good, she now qualifies for "select" dance with a new select price.

Sequin outfits and grinding during parades at age 9? Horrible.

Won't cover will be my name on the losers I pick this season in football. For recreational use only.

You mean because you can afford to pay she "qualified". If you couldn't she somehow wouldn't be "select"

I am actually appalled at the dance music I hear them practicing to. It is certainly not age appropriate.
